The Facebook Scams Thread

I thought it'd be nice to have a thread where people can post those facebook statuses that urge you to pass them on so a child can get a new heart, or so that you won't die a horrible death for breaking the chain, or so that hackers won't get you etc etc.

Mostly so we can laugh at them. But also so that people can get feedback on whether one is bollocks or not before they repost it themselves.

For example, a friend of mine posted this earlier today:

With the new 'FB timeline' on its way this week for EVERYONE...please do both of us a favour: Hover over my name above. In a few seconds you'll see a box that says "Subscribed." Hover over that, then go to "Comments and Likes" and unclick it. That will stop my posts and yours to me from showing up on the side bar for everyone to see, but MOST IMPORTANTLY it LIMITS HACKERS from invading our profiles. If you re-post this I will do the same for you.​

If you unsubscribe from someone's comments, you just won't see their comments. It doesn't stop hackers doing anything.

i never repost or do anything anyone reposts. majority of the time i bust it with a link to SNOPES.COM. i LOVE doing that!

Lol FaceBook scams.

When I had a FaceBook account I just wouldn't use any apps period. I deleted my account months a go-- yes, deleted. Not deactivated, I managed to network my way into the hidden web of options and locate the secret delete button.

FaceBook is so wrong for so many reasons. Some day when it collapses and people stop using it, we'll think back to the decade of FaceBook and laugh about it... I hope. >:I

True...I know someone: she's intelligent, well educated and in a band that has traveled the world, won awards, knows some pretty influential people but believed the one about the boy receiving life-saving heart surgery if his picture rec'd so many likes or was shared or foolish thing like that. :wtf:

I have one friend who is recovering from cancer and is ALWAYS asking for such and such a link to be re-posted about cancer with the added guilt of only true friend will post this...I never post it. I'm not into guilt as a way to control what others repost on their walls.

I hate it when people ask you to repost things.
1) I don't have the time
2) I think it is people trying to find out who are posting these thing via Google and stealing IDs (it doesn't take a lot of imagination ya'know)

Similar...I never respond to those people who say "I'm cleaning out my friend's list. If you want to stay, let me know!" Yeah, I'm not begging anybody to keep me on their Facebook friends list. Do or don't...I don't give a fuck. :dunno

There have been ads here on TV recently, that a FB page for....ummm....I think its some charity in Africa or something...cant remember exactly what...will get a dollar for every "like".:dunno (or perhaps its 10c or something)...the point being..if this ones a scam..someone has gone to a LOT of effort.

I'll see if I can find the ad...
