The Churchill myth

Everybody seems to hold Winston Churchill in such high regard but some really critisize his policies and decisions.

This is an old book but I was just noticing it now: VDARE.com: 07/23/08 - Buchanan On World War II, The National Question And Hitler's Posthumous Revenge

What would have happened if we had let Russia have Poland, make kissy-kissy with Hitler and let him and Stalin duke it out? Operation Barbarosa would have been a Godsend and German victory would have closed eastern Europe to Communism (and saved millions of lives).

I want to know why the west was so eager to suck commie dick just to oppose Hitler. Churchill could have avoided a war that killed millions.

Is Curchill being misquoted?

As Pat notes, "Churchill was no egalitarian humanist". He was an avid supporter of eugenics, who warned that Britain’s population of 120,000 feeble minded "should, if possible, be segregated under proper conditions so that their curse died with them and was not transmitted to future generations".[Page 401]
Churchill had no problem with the idea of some races expanding their living space: "I do not admit…that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia...by the fact that a stronger race, a higher grade race…has come and taken their place." [p. 403]

Maybe because the Commies were on our side and we couldn't have won it without them, even if they committed terrible war crimes too, they wern't threatening to invade us though.

Actually, the USA only came in because of Pearl Harbour, nothing to do with Churchill at all.

My opinion, Churchill was the right man at the right time. Everyone thought he was a scaremongerer like Bush. Unlike Bush though, he was spot on. He also made serious errors before that, it was him that was responsible for Gallipolli. He was also rather racist about Ghandi. I still admire him though for pulling us through the war, it was touch and go and I think most others would have failed.

At the time, I think the Germans were regarded as more of a threat than the Russians so it was an alliance of convenience. Once the Germans were neutralized the cold war with the Communists started.

How about "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" idea. You read the thoughts of FDR and his war team they had no delusions about Stalin. Churchill would have been just as happy if the war continued after the Nazi's surrendered and the Soviet Union pushed back.

However, I do not think WW2 would have been won if there was no Russian Front. Britain would have been eventually taken over due to all the extra forces deployed against it.
