Today, Jessica Meeker will earn her MBA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

That statement above, in and of itself, is not too startling. What is surprising, however, is that Jessica Meeker is only 18 years old.

At an age where most teenagers are starting to think about whether or not they're going to attend university, Jessica has already completed two degrees. "It just feels so good to finally be done," Meeker said Friday. "I have been in college for so long."

For what it's worth, "so long" has been since she was 12 years old, and enrolled at Pennsylvania State University. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology at the age of 16.

As for what she's going to do now that she has an MBA, her future remains unclear. She doesn't have any job offers yet, and is toying with getting a doctorate in psychology. Tongue-in-cheek, she's also joked that she's considering getting a job in a place like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.

"I'm addicted to sugar and Mountain Dew, and everyone tells me you should work in something you like," she said.

she will undoubtedly fail miserably because of her maturity (or lack there of) as i have read other statements by her. book smarts get you through grades, but street smarts get you through life.

Yeah, but the amazing thing is here that 95% of 16 year olds are just trying to memorize the methods of doing algebra, meanwhile she's completing a degree in psychology.

She was 12 yrs old and enrolled in a college already. I dont think thats from memorization. I think she is pretty gifted.

schooling is more than education. anyone can breeze through an education, but schooling holds them back:

schooling is the series of social, economic, and political lessons learned in the course of life.

education is the time spent learning.

forcing more education into a shorter period of time lessens the quality of education compared to that of which could have been received in a normal, less deviant course of schooling. i was in gifted programs from age 8 through 14, then i began working my first job at 16, took my first 2 college courses at 17, started my second job at 17, modded the hell out of my car, drank my 100th beer, and a lot of other social/economic things from 16-now. going into 18- i will take two more college courses at school, finish up my second job, head off to a major university to get a collective mix of partying and schooling- all of this wrapped up in a 17-18 year education span earning me due credit for much more schooling than the average teen. politically, i would love to retire from a business course through life and settle into politics. we will see where life takes me- hell, i could get hit by a bus tomorrow; my motto- live for the day, prepare for the long haul.

through my own mistakes, lessons, observations, i have learned to prepare financially for a time of crisis, take all schooling seriously, and most of all- apply what is learned to real life social events to be a better part of society. this girl is missing the big picture

To some degree attending school can be seen as performing a couple of major functions.

Education - an understanding of the world, that is shared by your peers.

Maturation - giving you the time to become an adult, or if you prefer, a person who can contribute to society.

Homogenization - fitting you into the world that you share with your peers but also the world that you are about to inherit.

There are many people who pass all three of these & move on to fit into the world quite comfortably but there are some who don't.

This woman, Jessica Meeker, probably did not have a chance to grow up with her peers & this may affect her societal values, but in after a few years in the workforce, it will probably not be noticeable.
