"Teen Mom" charged with domestic abuse

Amber Portwood faces two felony counts for assaulting the father of her child on TV

MTV
A still from a "Teen Mom" episode in which Amber assaults the father of her child

Abuse is abuse, regardless of the sex of the perp. That's the message Indiana police have delivered by charging Amber Portwood, a star of reality show "Teen Mom," with felony domestic violence. An investigation started after MTV aired an episode earlier this fall in which the 20-year-old punches, slaps and kicks Gary Shirley, the father of her child (she also slapped and choked him during the previous season).
Indiana police spokesperson Mitch Carroll told CNN that the police report details three incidents -- two of which were caught on camera -- in which she pushed, slapped, choked, kicked and punched Shirley. Now Portwood, who has brushed off her violent tendencies in the past, faces two felonies charges (because the violence occurred in front of their child) and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence. If found guilty, she could spend up to three years in jail and face a fine of up to $10,000.
When the latest episode of violence aired in September, I wondered what "the public reaction would be if the direction of the violence in their relationship was reversed" and concluded, "It's hard to imagine comparable male-on-female violence continuing to air, season after season, without major outcry or intervention" -- but, hey, better late than never

females abusing men is more common than you might realise

OMG I was not knowing that...too much liberty given to women seems to have women have a low worth of men . especially, n the West!! It's not so in the East yet..;)

Violence is violence, no matter what the gender. Violence begets violence.

I have a very deep problem with reality shows airing and making a profit off of negative behavior. I never watch such things so when something like this comes along I'm struck dumb with amazement. I'm sensing the OP is using a reality show platform to initiate a discussion on violence in general and violent women in particular.

I don't not condone violence whatsoever unless it is a situation where your life is in immediate jeapordy and your only way out, to save your life is to be extreme. That goes for men as well as women.

For the record, I have a personal problem with reality shows.

I have not watched any reality show for years:) I was just startled by this men-bashing news and that's all.
furthermore my observation was 'endorsed' by Bsky who said there was more to it!
That is amazing indeed!
Afterall I would like to understand from you, the western women, what makes women go so berserk that
they forget to honor their husbands anymore????
In the East women are generally 'obedient', perhaps because of socio-cultural reasons but as soon as even the Eastern woman gets educated, learns to earn and 'gains' some sense she sometimes tries to undermine the position of men.....but mostly she \behaves' because she has to live 'like a good housewife' in a ''familial patriarchal '' system equally enjoying what others do!
for her own 'survival'...
This is not so in some parts of the East but even in advanced cultures like Japanese and chinese, etc
Wonder how it goes with women in the West....??????

The only reality shows I watch are the ones where there's a slight chance that some hot girl will have parts of her clothing accidentally fall off during a competition. :p

The suicide rate is quite a bit higher, too. In old school traditional Chinese families, it is not uncommon for men to take several lovers. This is not covert but overt. The matriarchal system is in place and the first wife to the finish line is the head of the family, right after the husband. Granted it's more progressive now that the new generation of women are standing up and crying "bullshit." From what I've seen of my ex mother in law (and my POV is very skewed, mind you) and the carnage she created with her sons, the first wife IS obediant, if she is to cross the finish line with all the goodies.

"Honoring" your husband needs to be mutual from both parties.

I know a Chinese businessman has a wife at every station he goes to.....that gives him a homely feeling and saves on hotel expenses too. But that is their cultural issue....

If a husband gives all that wife wants then what else is there that she would expect him to honor her??
In the East most women are not required to work and earn to share and contribute their household...

How does anybody know who is giving whom in a relationship? It's a personal, cultural issue between the two of them.

In the East a VERY FEW women are not required to work but work nonetheless. In the east, almost ALL women work. The exception being the old school matriarchs. And I've seen many of them working long hours.

Which part of the East are you talking about??? At least women are not required to work in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh,
Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Iran, Indonesia and even Malaysia, etc etc, unless they are EXTREMELY POOR, high professionals or those who are UNDER SOME CONSTRAINT...

China, Japan and some countries of the Far East are an exception.....

you say a wife should honour the husband,if you honour someone its the same as respecting them, and respect has to be earned
