It really makes me wonder how people like that end up becoming teachers. I mean who wakes up one day and thinks "I want to be a teacher. It has decent pay but nothing special and I don't really have a passion for it at all, just seems fun. I'm going to do a half ass job the whole time and not treat the kids right." I mean it doesn't really make sense. Why would you go through all the hard work of being a teacher if your not a person who loves it and likes working with kids. Any child being mistreated by any adult is sick. But a teacher who is supposed to be looked up to mistreating an autistic kid who is even more vulnerable than the average child is just awful. I'm glad that I've grown up always having pretty good teachers. At the worst I've had teachers who didn't really care, but they were all smart enough to respect me and my peers (or at least treat us correctly).

I think 36 it's because they think vulnerable kids won't be able to tell what they do so they CAN do a half-assed job and because they scumbag teachers are unhappy they can take all their frustration out on them. They are bullies who are inadequate, pathetic excuses for human beings

But one thing I really love about the video is the dad. I mean it is so very common to find parents that are abusive or un-loving to their autistic children. They may see them as just a burden or a mistake that they have to deal with. This guy really loves his son and cares for him. And he very openly loves his son and obviously expresses it. A lot of parents, of even non-disorder kids, aren't very open about their affection for their kids. This guy is a great father and is doing his best to raise his son the best way possible, and I love it.

36 I agree. I mean and he's doing it mostly on his own. I mean he's the primary care giver. Let's face it unusual it being the father.

Yeah Hart it's awful. it really upsets me because it wasn't like the teacher did it and her peers were like "hey you shouldn't do that." She did it and they had a "lol u so funny and good teacher" attitude about it. And even when he brought the situation to the school director he/she didn't really seem to care a whole lot. I mean when I first started watching the video I was like "yeah I hope it's just this one teacher" , but it really isn't that uncommon of a thing at all.

I agree, I would really like to hear what happens, and I really hope there is some repercussion (sic) to the main teacher, not just the teacher's aide. Because ultimately isn't it the teacher's responsiblity to maintain what happens in her/his class?

I deal with autistic kids every day, and have dealt with some of the most severe. The autistic students I have now are just in the "weird kid" category, meaning they have odd quirks & don't always behave socially the way people might expect. The thing is, is that it is really easy to push their buttons, make them go off. And some teachers forget that frustration comes with the job when teaching autistic kids, even more than with other kids. It's really easy to take frustrations out on them - too easy.

That's why it's critical that the teachers watch each other and help before the frustration reaches that point. There's no excuse for doing that to a kid, no matter how tempting and easy.

Wow ... had to stop it after 5 min ...

The immature and overly selfish nature of those who were "aids" and "teachers" in that class should not be allowed anywhere near a teaching job for a LONG time.
