anything you remember from your childhood, whether it be funny, serious, happy or sad
it was about 1971,my sister was a skinhead....not one of those new idiots who do nazi salutes but a proper one,one who listened to jamaican music and mixed with jamaican immigrants.she even had me as a skinhead with monkey boots, cropped hair, tonic trousers, braces and check shirts(i was 11)......well back then there was only one band from britain that skinheads associated themselves with, and that was slade....well slade had this song called 'get down and get with it'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FiJzMILmRg
well slade did a uk tour, back then a tour was about 50 dates in theatres etc,now they came to coventry to play the coventry theatre....the coventry theatre was a decent venue with a lower tier and an overhanging upper tier,we'll you can imagine when 'get down and get with it' was played......there was about 3000 skinheads all in dr martin boots up on the upper tier 'stomping'...all in unison....well the song had to be cut short for an announcement......'will everyone on the upper tier please be seated because its liable to collapse'
sadly the coventry theatre is gone now.
