This is the second time I seen this Saint Judes commercial. I can't even fathom putting these children with life threatening illnesses with this dude. He may have been the calm one during a shit storm but I'd like to think did what any other captain would have done in the same situation. Himself saying people are calling him a hero then going on to say these children are his real hero sounds nothing more than media exploitation.

I think Dana should take that job as managing editor for the networks as to what to allow for commercials because he knows all too well how stupid the general public is. and plus it would finally allow us to finally see what he truly likes.

St Jude's is actually really good about using the money for what for they need it for. Something like 85 cents of every dollar pulled in.

:24: This thread is awesome, in an I-can't-believe-how-sad-it-is sort of way.

Before I give you my opinion, I'll tell you that I've had 2 college classes in Aviation Safety, both of which focused on case studies of actual incidents. We probably covered every major accident that's ever happened, from an Air Traffic Control, FAA/NTSB, and the pilot's perspective.

Sully DIDN'T do what any other pilot would do. The number of pilots who would've even thought of trying to land an Airbus on a river is probably just him. The vast majority of pilots would have tried to fly 8 more miles into NJ, I think it was Teterboro that ATC was trying to guide him to, and would've crashed en route and killed everybody on board plus more on the ground. The man is a hero, and if he wants to use that image to help raise money for kids, then he's even more of a hero.

I agree somewhat in that what Sully did to get the plane down safely is what any experienced pilot would have done. It's not so much what he did in landing the plane as it is how he carried himself during and after the crash.

Signing the guy as a spokesperson was a stroke of genius.

And putting sick kids, abused animals, the poorest of the poor, etc. on TV in order to extract donations is exploitation. But they wouldn't do it if it didn't work.

i have a hard time believing all the money they pull in is going towards a cure. Drug companies would go out of business.
Well help me out, then. The hospital shouldn't be calling the guy a hero, shouldn't be using the kids they're trying to help to get donations, and apparently we shouldn't be giving to such an organization because ... what ... they might misuse part or all of the funds?

Then where should parents turn when the kid gets some disease they never thought to save for?

I'm really not seeing how Dana can have a problem with Donnies sig when he asks for it better than I ever could if I tried, with threads like this!:24:

If he tries to convince you to send money to a hospital to help sick kids, I have no problem with that.

Aside from the OP, the joke among airline pilots when something comes up is "what would Sully do?"
