If some of you remember, I took our greyhound to the Walthamstow dog track on a parade of retired greyhounds organised by a woman who just has recieved an MBE for her work with rehoming retired greyhounds and she does all this confined to a wheelchair too, the dogs had a lovely time and lots of money was raised for the cause. Someone put a video up of the event on you tube and this is was some dick head commented -

this is so cruel, why would you put retired greyhounds up with having to deal with going back to the track. Those tracks gave those dogs teh worst memories of their lives. Anybody who supports greyhound racing is a horrible person, no questions asked. Dont even argue that not all of them are cruel, i dont care. You people treat these beautiful animals horribly. It makes me sad to see ignorant people like you who turn their backs to cruelty like this.

Wtf is wrong with some people??? This is what I replied to them

What utter rubbish! While we were waiting to go in all the greyhounds with no exception got really excited when they heard the last race. If you actually watch the video you can see just how happy and delighted they are to be back there. How dare you judge people about something that you are clearly talking out of your backside about!
I support greyhound racing so I guess I must be such a horrible person for providing loving homes for 2 greyhounds over a combined period of over 12 years now. I wonder what you've done to care for greyhounds? Hmmm!!!

I know there are a lot of twats like this out there but it really pisses me off!:mad

Greyhounds aren't usually treated badly imo. They may be "disposed" of after their racing career either doesn't take off or ends abruptly due to injury .. but for the most part those dogs love the chase .. it's what they were bred to do.

They take pretty good care of them .. because a sickly dog won't perform = lost money for them, and some of those dogs cost those people a pretty penny up front. They are "disposed" of in order to not lose more money though.

Which is pretty sad. I can imagine the dogs were excited .. all the smells and sounds .. I've never seen a greyhound that refused to run out of the gate .. it's like a big game for them.
