ok my sister just told me that she spilled a mudslide drink on her key board and her 'E' and 'R' keys both dont work. since it is a laptop is there anything she can do get it unstuck. she dint purchase a warranty with it. and she said the #2 key fell off and she cant get it back on. so she doesnt want to take off the E and R key. but does she just have to by a key board that connect to the laptop and use it like that or is there something she can do?

She was probably playing with herself on your keyboard

you can't really risk getting liquid in there to clean it up or it might cause even more serious problems....sounds like she'll have to get a keyboard...but if she gets a new laptop...best buy has accidental coverage now so it covers for that crap.

i dont think she has the money for another laptop. but im still talking to her and her E key works now but not the R. shes lucky it was just those 2 keys. i guess she'll have to get a key board for her laptop.

The best thing for her to do, honestly, would be to just let it sit overnight to dry out before she shorts something out inside.

I would tell you how to take it apart and clean it properly, but if it isn't something you or she are accustomed to doing, then it'll seem like stereo instructions in a foreign language. *smiles*

And for future problems...perhaps she should purchase a keyboard cover...it keeps liquids from getting in, even on laptops.

(another note, dell has laptops for less than $500 with decent specs if she needs a new one)

ill let her know all your advise. as the new laptop thing go. at least right now she wont beable to get one. her and scott(her boyfriend) just moved into a new place and i guess moneys kind of tight right now.

and when i asked her if she had got a warranty with it, she said "no" so i guess shes out of luck right now.

i guess shell have to get a new key board to plug into her laptop.

if the keys are stuck anyway, and not usable, why not try and fix? they are broken anyway and they arent going to fix themselves...

how are they broken.. are they physically stuck up/down? just unresponsive?
getting keys off of laptop keyboards is usually pretty easy - most of the time they snap off with a little pressure from underneath. im not going to force you to try if you are hesitant though - i just figured why the hell not since its already broken...

What type of laptop is it (make and model) yeh the keyboards are replaceable all of the ones I have taken apart mostly (Dell and Toshiba's) there is a plastic strip at the top above the keyboard between the display screen that snaps out and gives you acess to 2 phillips screws then the keyboard is attached via ribbon cable. she can try to clean it once it is out with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol or buy a replacement keyboard from the vendor or maybe ebay.

at some point she shoud call the manufactor and they should be able to walk her thru popping the keys off or what she can safely use to get it cleaned.

just so she has an alternative when/if she wants to use the actual keyboard vs the wireless one

Of course you would say that, you can't have her find out...

I'd just find a way to get the keyboard off and try to fix it. There's very little technology in the keyboard itself, you can probably just rinse it off in the sink and dry it with the hairdryer.

As was said before, you usually pop off the panel above the keyboard to reveal the scres - but be careful with the ribbon wire.

Typically, there is a plastic tab where the ribbon wire connects you must lift up on before removing, and again pop up to put back in. Don't bend the wire either, it's hard to replace.

I broke my touchpad wire, and had to buy a whole upper assembly to get the stupid wire.

this is not recommeded due to possible corrosion of the contact pins/strips on the keyboard for laptops or desktops.
