Keep in mind, I grew up watching William Shatner (sp?) LOL

In the 2009 (?) Star Trek movie (thought it was one of the better ones by the way:thumbup) at the end of the movie they show Christopher Pike in a wheel chair.

Driving today thinking about the movie (I to that sometimes) I thought about the original series and how Christopher Pike ended up in the chair and realized that Spock was with him on the original series on a planet ("The Menagerie" I believe, and yes, that's going off memory).

I've researched nothing online, BUT, does this jive????

The only thing I didn't like in the 2009 movie (I think that was the year) was that there were two Spock's occupying the same timeline which I'm no Albert Einstein so I'm not even go to try and think that one out.

But how was Spock on a planet with Captain Pike in the original series? This possible?

I'm pretty sure the 2009 movie is an alternate timeline due to the events that occurred with the red matter, etc etc.

Or something.

Which would mean the entire original TV series never happened?

Just couldn't figure the odds that Pike would be in a wheel chair in both TV series and movie if there wasn't some correlation.

it was a plot that was never developed for the original series, plus you couldn't have the new generation of Trek movies to follow in line with the older ones (no one really watched Star Trek: the motion picture) although trekkies who did see the movie wanted more in the next movie (Wrath of Khan)

In essence yes because this Star Trek while staying within the canon was a reboot of the franchise; which is why Nimoy was in the movie I assume. So altering the timeline gives the leeway to start raw.
