I am not sure why I am posting this here, but it is something I feel strongly about. To put this in proper context, I have been on a mission at the local level to approach a concept I have called "Educational Equality", to make the educational system in my state parallel with the needs of all children regardless of districting.

Obviously, the more affluent the district the sloser the schools come to obtaining the educational marks set forth by local and state government.

I for one think this is a travesty, a mis-direction of educational priority. My talk was guided in a few directions, the importance of the hollistic, and well rounded approach to education, Math, Science, Grammar, Literature, Reading, Music and the Art's, and finally Sport's. An as well working towards making the United States the forefront of science and medicine again. But most important, to break financial boundaries that prevent the less fortunate children from having everything they need to be successful.

This is a small excerpt from my speech, basically a summary, a photo finish.

"Like I have previously remarked, ladies and gentlemen, in summary, is the importance and rather responsibility we have as a collective group of parents, teachers, faculties, taxpayers and government officials alike to elevate the level of excellence we exhibit in regards to ur public school system in Texas.

I have tried to touch on all the areas that I feel passionate about and truly believe that all children are born both innocent, and curious, a new pallate, clean canvases. They are all born with the innate desire to be taught healthy boundaries, the definition of right and wrong, a sense of country and of dignity, and more important, a dream that they can carry into the future.

If I have learned anything in my years in industry, and in my personal life alike, it is that I have been fortunate in all aspects, my public schooling experience was superior, mentors readily available at my total disposal, no ceiling given as to the heighth of success I could achieve.

What I know now and believe is the key is that regardless of our primal desire to resist control, the generations ahead of us will lead us into an unknown future, a future with as many questions as answers, and we have the fundemental responsibility to give them all of the tools, without regard to social status, religious leaning, social, economic or racial barrier.

Straight across the board should be the approach we take to ensuring that these young and fertile minds are cultivated to shape our collective furtures.

If I know anything, I know that with knowledge comes not only some degree of power, but more than anything an unriavled responsibility, the great paradigm in education, is that in order to keep what you have, you must be willing to give it away. The art's, mathematics, science, music, sport's all these are important in bestowing upon our youth a sense of community, and fellowship amongst thier peers.

And in closing, I will say this. That my observation has been, that by shining a light on the shadows of past strife and personal sacrifice that has been taken before us to help advance our ever changing nation, that we also pay tribute to the concept that with that discovery and sacrifice thereinlies a tremendous journey into the soul, a passion for discovery, making this journey more feeling, than just an equation in a textbook"

Okay there it is, somewhat balmy and idealistic, but it met with great response to the group who recieved it. I was honored to be the key speaker that evening.

That's interesting. I don't think peoples education should be dependant on money but it should be dependant on ability. Years ago in Britain there used to be an 11+ test which 11 years olds took to decide whether their education continued at comprehensive or grammer schools. I think that was kind of a good idea but should be a lot more flexible to abilities kids show. If a kid shows a good aptitude in a particular subject I think opportunities in that field should be more available to them than kids that don't. That said, I think kids should recieve a certain standard of education in all the basic subjects whatever their ability.

The Texas system has been a problem since GW was the Governor (if you can imagine that...lol)

Now the issue is the revolving door that has become of the State level director of education. They cannot keep the job filled, and the State has done such a poor job governing the school system, or at least helping, that the individual districts have been to some degree self directing. Mis-spending monies, and cancelling programs they deem unimportant to child development.

HOWEVER, my children attend an exemplary school, however, in the same school district there are schools that do not meet the minumum criteria by state requirements. There inlies the economic inequality. Because my kid's live in a substantially affluent area, the school gets better funding...EVEN THOUGH I pay school taxes (and a ton at that) into a system that was designed to support all the schools in our district.

You see the big picture?

Do you have school league tables in the USA. We had them brought in by Blair and it's resulted in a lot of parents trying to get places in better schools and has led to a lot of unfairness claims, especially when a kid ends up having to travel miles to school instead of his local one because all the places have been snapped up by kids who live in the area this kid now has to travel to. It's a fucked up world! Kids really should be given equal opportunities but it's very hard to get it spot on seeing that some schools will always be better than others. I dunno what the answer is.:confused

I have been working on a proposal I am going to send to local and federal legislature about looking at the spending of the school districts, at least get all of the schools in the districts at the standards needed. There is no reason for there to be polarity between two schools in the same district. I am going to author bill...Watch out DC...lol

Very nice speech Badboy. :clap

Yeah, we had that too Pete. That done away with now and they kids are guaranteed to move on to secondary (college) facilities. We've also introduced free university education thereafter so that all may have a chance, whereas before it would have been very costly to pursue.
