Do you remember one you received or one you went the extra distance to make happen for someone else?

My daughter was a bit of a TomBoy from the start as she was the first child and I treated her like a son. She never was much into dolls but one Christmas she asked for a doll. Not just any doll she wanted a "P.J. Sparkles". My wife looked to me and said we need to make this happen. This was the late 80's so internet was not a consideration back then. We lived in Dothan, Alabama which was not a little town but not very big either. I searched the entire city and NO PJ Sparkles was to be had. My Mother-in-Law lived in Montgomery so we put her on the trail too. None to be had there either. There is 100 mile stretch of road between Dothan and Montgomery with a couple of cities along the way. We combed every city on our travel route, and No PJ Sparkles. As luck would have it a good friend invited me to a deer hunt at an area where three rivers meet just above Mobile, Alabama. I got to the meeting town early and had time to kill in Grove Hill, Alabama a real small town. I walk in T,G, &Y to find an entire wall of "PJ SPARKLES" dolls. They had white ones, black ones, blonde ones, brunettes too. I did not have a lot of money with me and spent most of it on the doll which spent the weekend in my truck at the deer camp. Santa was a hero that CHRISTMAS!:thumbup

I think the one someone liked the best was when I was dating a guy who went to school with my coworker. I wanted a picture of him and we hadn't been dating long (we did for 2 years) and I had no pictures. She brought her yearbook and I brought it to a local artist with a description of his dog. He did a caracature and when Ron saw it he was shocked and so pleased!

I'd do it again in a heart beat for someone.

Oh I also purchased a painting for my dad that he admired. I think he paid more for getting it framed professional than I did for the picture, because it was from the lady I bought my first duplex from and she gave me a deal ;)

I crocheted an entire afghan behind Jim's back and gave it to him for Christmas a few years ago.. It took me six months because I could only do it while he was at work and he was working nights... I lived on very little sleep.

One year mom was complaining her back hurt.. I went out and bought her a new bed to be delivered Christmas Eve while we were at Midnight Mass. She got home and went to her bedroom to change and found the new bed.. I thought she was never going to stop crying.

My Mum and I always spend our christmas on a different date, between hunucha and christmas. A little tradition we've always had is that I make her an absolutely terrible breakfast. For the first time last year we weren't going to be together. SO I drove to see her and brought a long with me a really disgusting bunch of pancakes that we devoured.

This year I'm on a bit of a budget but for James's present, I'm making him a christmas stocking with his name on it with a few little things inside of it. I'm not a very good sewer but I'm sure he won't mind :P it looks a little pathetic, suits me :D haha
