Sheldon Souray's first season with the Edmonton Oilers has come to end.

The defenceman, who signed a five-year, $27 million contract in the offseason, will not suit up with team for the rest of year following arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder late last week.

"It's not an ideal situation for anyone, especially under the circumstances that I came here under, how I injured it and stuff like that," Souray said. "But it's one of those things that needed to be fixed - and sooner rather than later so this doesn't carry on into next year."

Wow, things just keep getting worse for the Oilers. First Horcoff, and now Souray. Ever since they lost to the Canes in the Playoffs two years ago, everything has been a downward spiral.
