I am supposed to start my first shift at my new job tomorrow. I just got home from the ER. I have a herniated disc in my lower back. From moving a heavy piece of furniture today. Yeah FML. I will probably lose this job.

Ouch, that sucks, Tom!!! :( Not only b/c of the job, but b/c back problems are some of the worst pain there is. It's absolutely miserable. :(

Did they prescribe bed rest or give you drugs? Need to make employer aware either way. Good Luck with getting better quickly. I do empathize.

yeah they did. Tramadol for the pain. Cyclobenzaprine hcl for the spasms. 800 mg of ibuprofen for the inflammation.

It's not like you hurt your back on purpose. If they hold it against you, then you don't need to work for people like that.
That is kind of the way I am Thinking. I am wondering if it is some kind of sign. The doctor that it will take a few months for my back to heal from my herniated disc. The job that I got can be very physically demanding at times.

Im getting old.
