I'm going insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my laptop has been just shutting off while gaming. So of course I checked for viruses from updates, errors on addons and updated them, the next thing I think it can be is the damn thing overheating.

Now normally my laptops screen will get all weird for a bit before I have to manually shut it down due to overheating. BUT it's just straight shutting off on me and not restarting. I've checked my fan and it isn't spotless but it seemed ok when I looked at it. So I turn back on my comp after that and come to find out the damn fan isn't even working. So that solves the issue I'm sure, but now I have to get that fixed.

So I'm hoping my laptop is still under warranty. It's over a year old but my paperwork says something about 1 and 3 years and I'm not sure which is on mine.

NOW normally this wouldn't be an issue because I have a desktop, but I went to turn that fucker on today and it starts and just shuts off which leads me to think it's the freaking power supply. I haven't turned on my desktop in a few months and it's been unplugged so nothing could have effected it through the plug in like a surge or anything.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo onto the questions.

IF my laptop isn't under warranty how much do you think it will be to get a fan to fix it? And no I have no clue what the specs of the fan that's needed is. If anyone could tell me how to find out that would ROCK.

Also anyone know where I can get a good priced power supply? Like anyone that gets discounts some where? lol I'm definitely going to need to go higher than 500 watts because those all keep blowing out on me.

I'd really really appreciate any help and info.

Thank you all in advance.

Ignore the discounts part lol I also posted this on a forum of local friends of mine who can get a discount but I didn't want to read through and find it to delete it hehe.

Well I order through Cyberpowerpc. And I just got off the phone with them and I guess it's made by MSI/Microstar International. I am not sure what the model is as there wasn't really a name for it when I bought it. So I'm looking up MSI's number to find out a little more info on it.

i seriously doubt you will need a 500W power supply!! i mean seriously, and if your looking into buying a cheap psu then your asking for trouble

As for the laptop, its prob be cheaper to just replace it when it comes down to it, the cost of the fan will be peanuts but the labour involved they will most likely charge a bomb, as for fan spec it will be a generic fan, say a 50mm fan or prob smaller. If you feel comfy enough todo the labour yourself ge the fan and open the laptop up

Download real temp or core temp, this will show you your cpu temps, also your tj max, so you can tell whether the cpu is throtteling at high heat loads.

Also can i ask, do you leave the charger plugged into the laptop constantly

Well seeings how the last two power supplies that have gone out on me were 500 watt I'm almost positive I should get a higher watt ps.

And no I don't leave the laptop plugged in all the time, BUT most of the time yes.

Leaving a charger in a laptop longer than it needs for charging will naker the battery BIG time!

post ur desktop specs up and i will tell you how much wattage you need to power your pc, go for quality not wattage cheaap psu = BANG lots of smoke

After hunting down my specs I realized my desktop is getting effin old lol. I have upgraded the vid card, harddrive, memory and changed the power supply out 3 times in those 5 years.

I can't remember exact model of the current vid card but it's an Nvidia 6600 I believe. And I THINK it's got a gig of memory on it. It's got 120 hd now.

But here are original specs. So my first ps was 350 watt but last two were 500 and I know it's not NEEEEEEEEEEDED but if the last two 500 have gone out it just makes sense to me I guess to get a higher watt ps.

ALSO when i said cheap I didn't mean crappy. I meant something that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.

from the wall youl be pulling 280-300w

if u want adecent power supply that will power whatever you will throw at it, not die on you and still be rather cheap go for a Corsair VX 450W ATX Power Supply or even the 550W one, this is what i mean by quality not wattage

My psu cost me near £200, the psu and has lasted me about 2years now of total abuse along its 12v rails :D its to often people scrimp on psu's in computers, i have been been building computers for many years now, and have worked as an it technician

Aslo cheap come with crappy with computer parts im afraid, though there can be some awesome bang for buck out there

Ya I agree you can get crappy comps when you want to spend little.
I bought it 5 years ago tho and back then it was a very nice rig.

I have my ex coming over later hopefully to look at it. He's been working on comps for years now so hopefully we can find out for sure if I'm right on the issues. Then I'll have to start finding the parts.
