So, someone else has Ubuntu on their computer? I got rid of Windows. You've all heard about it in my thread. In certain instances but not all, Windows doesn't always play well with a Linux OS on the same computer. It may work for you, but it may be just either Windows or Linux. In some instances, they don't work well together. In my case, Windows didn't work, but Ubuntu did. That's a decision you'll have to make on your own. :)

The main question is why did you partition your hard drive and put Ubuntu on it in the first place? Was Windows giving you a hard time? If not, then returning to Windows would solve your problem. The more specific problem with your router, I don't know, since I've never used one. :) I'm surprised that no one has come around to answer that.

If you haven't found an answer thusfar, then, going to Ubuntu Forums or Bleeping Computer may give you an answer for you. :)

I use both and have no issues.

What browser are you using and are you connecting to the internet in Linux and Windows ?

Don't just let it start and see one site try a few.. It could well be your Network Adapters are not set properly in Linux..

It's like saying, my car won't start but I keep using the key..

Ok do you have gas, does it still have an engine, blah blah blah.. Get my point..

OK what Browser in Linux are you trying to access the Router with and do you see the Internet with no problems when you are in Linux ?

What I mean is can you browse with no issues and log in to OTz as an example from Linux boot up ?

The reason I ask is you can simply use Firefox in both Windows and Ubuntu.. This makes it easy as Firefox has a "Password" transfer Add-On that can make life easy for you if you don't mind doing this procedure.. You can remove the password after in both if you do not want it saved..

Having the same Browser trying to access the same Router and doing it in one Boot but not the other can really help you diagnose the problem..

OK Dana...

1) Can you access the Internet.. This is the third time I ask and if you don't answer I can't help you..

2) Yes you can access your Belkin Router from most Browser.. Where you would usually type HTTP:// put in that address bar 192.168.2.1 and a Password Box should appear.. Most Boxes DO NOT REQUIRE A USER NAME and only a PASSWORD..

Let me know if you can see the internet in Linux.. That is Critical and maybe why you cannot access from the Belkin Software Button or it could even be the Belkin Software that is not finding your network Adapters properly and the Browser may be the only way to access your Belkin if you can see the internet..

My ubuntu installation always had issues with my wireless, never could stay connected unless I was on the main level of my home. The question I would have, do you have the ability to hard wire your connection instead of going wireless? If so does that work? Also how far are you from your router, if you move closer does it work? Maybe also do an apt_get to see if there are any better drivers for your hardware.

i can hardwire but itd be a pain in the ass to plug it in to my laptopp as it goes underneath the floor thru the bathroom out to the back of my apartment. I got the router so i could move around the apt if I wanted. I can try moving the router.

Brujah by the sounds of the little info Dana is posting, I get his drivers under Linux are not working correctly and he is not even capable of connecting to anything at this point..

Under Ubuntu 10.10 you need not even do the apt_get to update your drivers.. There is an application to self install new drivers and stuff but I keep asking Dana if he can see the Internet and he is not telling me.. So I cannot help him.. :mad

How can it self update if he cannot connect at all..

how can i see the internet if i can't connect? LOL

That was the point in asking you if you could see the internet.. :mad

You keep saying you can't access the Router but it would have been nice to know if it was just a connection to the Router or if it was the Adapters that were an issue.. Knowing that you cannot see anything past the desktop is the DEAD giveaway but you never answered my question till now..

Basically you need to know what network adapters you have in your PC and go search and see if there are Ubuntu 10.10 updates for them. If it is Broadcom or Intel Network you need to know the Version..

Does this make sense now ???
