Cleaning 'broke inmate's rights'
A convicted burglar claimed his human rights were breached because he had to empty toilet pots in a Suffolk prison.
Daniel Cornell, of Colchester, Essex, is seeking damages for distress suffered while having to "slop out" at Blundeston Prison, near Lowestoft.
Cornell, in his 30s, who was given a three-and-a-half year term for a series of burglaries in 2004, is taking legal action against the prison authorities.
The Ministry of Justice said it could not comment on individual cases.
Campaign group The Prison Reform Trust said it was not aware that "slopping out" was still common in UK prisons.

I call bullshit seeing that prisons in the UK stopped this and installed toilets over 10 years ago, hope he ends up losing and with a hefty legal bill for this. Then again, maybe not, he might go burglaring again to pay for it.:smiley24:

Yes dude, in socially forward thinking countries, everyone regardless of what they have done has a thing called basic human rights. The key word here is basic. Having enough food, somewhere to sleep and health care ect are part of this. It's been around for a while now.;)

Lord why did I have to see this thread!? *sigh*

People in prison should receive the MINIMUM amount of rights and upkeep. Give them food, give them shelter, make sure no one in the prison is trying to hurt them or kill them, make sure they can talk to their families on some sort of normal basis, make sure they don't freeze in the winter or fry in the summer, and that is IT. All this bullshit of having TV's with cable and PPV shit is ridiculous, along with all these special "rights" they are always hollering about. You don't pay for your upkeep, I DO! Along with having to work there I have to shell out my hard earned money for taxes to help with the inmates upkeep! It costs an average of $50,000.00 A YEAR to support ONE INMATE!! RIDICULOUS!

There are no basic human rights. What you are speaking of is only a construction of whatever ruling body deems appropriate (your government). In reality, they are privileges. Privileges that I believe criminals should forfeit to a certain extent.

:clap I agree. Prison is for punishment, not pampering. Cable TV, guards not being able to properly defend themselves for fear of losing their jobs (like me), basketball courts, high dollar gyms, discounts on name brand shoes and clothing....all BULLSHIT.

I agree with things such as tvs ect in prison, not because of human rights but because it keeps the peace. Boredom in prison leads to violence and riots which makes prison officers jobs more dangerous and costs more money to keep people prisoner. Over here, you get a tv in your cell, just a basic portable one with the basic 5 channels, not all this cable tv bullshit the media keeps bleating on about. If you do break a rule, you loose your telly. Simple and quite right imo.
