I make this thread in hopes that it doesn't turn into a fight but they seem to cause that for some weird reason that I don't understand.

I just want to gush over the new song that was leaked, All Hope Is Gone. They brought the metal in a big way. Weeeeeeooooo.

Anyways, to any Slipknot fans, welcome... to Slipknot haters, well, welcome!

+1 to anybody who doesn't tell me to listen to "real metal" like EMPEROR, BEHEMOTHDARK TRANQUILITY, OPETH, MORBID ANGEL, NILE, MAYHEM, CELTIC FROST, CANNIBAL CORPSE, CARCASS, ETC, or who doesn't tell me to move to Norway, or who doesn't act like a dink.

I think... it's the whole "nu-metal" thing... and the "real" metal fans get pissed that it's called metal? I dunno. I don't understand it either. o_O

And then there's apparently some feud or something with Mushroomhead...? I really don't know.

Ahhhhh. I read something about a leak today. Mind telling me where I can find it? .-. Would be muchly appreciated. I srsly need to start listening to Slipknot more. :'D

That kinda stuff's epic failure, man. Not necessarily those bands, just people who act like that. If ya don't like it, don't listen to it. It's that simple. No need to bash. .-.

Indeed. And it's ridiculous because Slipknot may have nu-metal influences but they also have all kinds of other influences that go into their music.

I'll PM you a link to download it in a min, as I don't know if file sharing is allowed here so I better not make it public, lol

I agree. I like a lot of those bands I listed but I'm just getting tired of being stereotyped (not on this board) because I like Slipknot, that I kind of get preemptive about "defending" myself. I'm just a lil sick of being told that Slipknot isn't metal (like it matters??) and that I should listen to [insert list of bands here].

Well. Of course. I mean... For ANY musician to draw all their influence from a single sub-genre is just... Well... Stupid. o_O If people actually did that, their sound would be so narrow, boring, and generic that no one would listen to it. And Slipknot have DEFINITELY achieved a degree of success. I'm not going to try to discuss Slipknot's influences specifically because I haven't listened to them enough, but still.

Definitely agreed. Really, who cares if they're "metal"? It's a label placed upon them by others; they'd be stupid to try to say they're anything but Slipknot. Their music may have some elements of metal, but they're really too different to be stereotyped as such.

I have a feeling I'm rambling a bit. 8D;;;

+ 1 to me :D

Metal's not my bag really, but I put up with it because one of my best mates seems to want to be Corey Taylor's (?) gay love buddy.
Or he's just his hero or something :)

But yeah, I can abide Slipknot because they are as mentioned different.

lol Nah it's nice to talk about them.

Here's an exact quote that someone has said to me on another forum:
Some knob posted

My favorite thing to do is find people that say Slipknot is the darkest heaviest stuff ever and introduce them to black metal like mayhem and behemoth, death/black metal like dimmu borgir, and death metal like emperor and at the gates. open your eyes slipknot isnt metal!
Like... are you... kidding me? It's sad that this is a popular thing. Did you know that they aren't even on the Encyclopaedia Metallum? Well there's a Slipknot on there but it's a different one and in their additional notes it says:
Encyclopaedia Metallum says:
Not to be confused with the popular mainstream nu-metal band Slipknot from Des Moines, Iowa.
Popular mainstream is a lil redundant, me thinks.

I'll discuss their influences, and most, if not all, of them appear in some of their songs:
Nu-metal (which would include stuff like hip-hop and funk), thrash metal, death metal, grindcore, industrial metal, hard-rock, speed metal hardcore, groove metal, jungle music, not to mention the fact that them hitting stuff like garbage cans can fit right in with more avant-garde groups who do that kinda thing a lot. Joey's drumming alone covers genres like jazz and fusion, along with his obvious metal influences. I'm evening willing to throw in traces of the Noise genre in there, as well. They're a melting pot. I'm sure there's more but y'know.

They aren't the most original band in the world but they are experimental, and they ride that line really well. Plus they're insanely passionate and put on a great live show.
And people like to diss them for having 9 members.

.....Gah. -_-" Stuff like that makes me want to stab someone. 8D;;;

Well let's face it, there's very little in music these days that's COMPLETELY original. Most of the ideas or themes have been used at some point. What's important is that they take the music where it needs to go, if that makes sense; they do what they need to in order to convey a certain emotion or idea. As long as they're passionate about what they're doing, and they're doing it for the sake of the music, it's awesome.

And people like to diss them for having 9 members.

So I've heard. -_-" People... Are just... Idiots. Who cares if they have more members than your typical band? Each member contributes something to the overall sound of the band, and that's what's important. Dissing Slipknot for having nine members is no different than making fun of an orchestra for being too big, as far as I'm concerned.

Word to your post, especially regarding having 9 members.

They do more than people think, and even if they aren't playing anything, they're doing something cool on stage. Slipknot triple layers their screams (Corey, Shawn and Chris screaming) sometimes. Shawn's also the creator of the band and does stuff like shooting films for Slipknot and making drums. It's a full experience, really.

And yeah, they're definitely passionate about what they're doing. They don't make albums unless they're feeling it. They hated each other after their Iowa tour (there are videos of, I think, Chris spitting in Shawns face and stuff like that) so they took some time off and all that. Hell, their last album was '04, it's been four years. They don't just shit out an album every year lol

....Dude. That's epic. :'D

But yeah. That just makes it even more awesome, really. Shows that they realize that not every single person needs to be used to create the sound they want, but that they still want to utilize everyone, make sure everyone's involved.

Good. Nothing annoys me more than a musician (or any artist, for that matter) who performs his/her work simply for the money rather than for the creation of art.

I like slipknot. Good band. Cory is an awesome writer. Who cares if people dont like'em. If everyone liked them, they'd be mainstream and sell out. Im glad there are some haters out there. Fuck'em

There was a time when Metallica was considered heavy metal. And before that Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Kiss...

It's all relative. Fuck the haters.

Word.

Anyways, they released the video for their single Psychosocial a few days ago:
YouTube - Slipknot - Psychosocial

It proves why I love Slipknot. While the song probably won't go down as a fave of mine (by them), it's still a great song and it's an awesome video. It's not just a boring performance video.
