Has anyone had Sinusitis? I think the recent cold bout (not the cause of it) suggests that I have got this condition

ever use a netti pot?

It helps

I use the squeeze bottle rather than the pot though.

I came across a mixture you can make yourself

grapefruit seed extract
non idoized salt
baking soda
distilled water

I will post the mixture tonite if anybody is interested.

I noticed there is also a grapefruit seed extract spray but never tried it.

The baking soda and salt I had used before as it is similar to what is in a netti pot prepackaged mixture you can get at the store.

It helps. Also I had a lot of improvement by taking certain vitamins. But that might not help others. I don't exactly have the greatest diet habits.

I think I had it once when I had a really bad cold, I thought I was going to die, it hurt that much.

Those sudafed tablets really help, but they may give you a banging headache :(

I have had chronic sinusitis since I was about 20 years old.

For years I thought they were just colds. They would mimic them with sore throats and chills and fatigue. In many cases they would lead to an ear infection. Eventually I was able to get a bit more control of them. I am too lazy to do a daily sinus rinse but when I feel a bout coming on I start the rinse and as of late it usually puts a stop to things getting out of hand.

I have chronic sinsusitis too (bad sinus allergies).... either use netti pot or NeilMead sinus rinse bottle. Both really helps

if you can get yourself saline nasal spray (over the counter) that helps keep your sinuses moist too to help decrease dryness/irritation.

Hope you feel better soon.

Add me to the chronic sinusitis list as well. The doctor even diagnosed it officially before I got out of the Air Force, so that the VA would pay for my allergy meds forever.

I take a nasal spray, and some pills. I'll look at the bottle, and get back to you.

I use that pot and also buy the packets of solution. They cost me less than 20 bucks for 100 doses which is a hell of a lot more convenient than messing with making my own stuff.

I've only been using the pot for the last two weeks per the ENT doctor's instructions and really haven't noticed any difference but that could be because of the environment I work in. Wood dust is hard on a persons breathing apparatus.

lighten up ya stingy grump. I will do a cost analysis to see how many does I get. It really is not that big a deal. You can mix up enough for a couple days at a time real quickly.

the grapefruit seed extract is the key as far as keeping it from to infections

I don't know that there is any magic elixir that will return one to 100% normal. I always have a degree of congestion and irritation..

and yes I doubt wood dust is very good. Might look silly but I would wear a surgical type mask if I was doing that for a living.

The prescription nasal spray never did squat for me. But I never stayed on them for month after month due to the high cost. And it takes about a month for them to do any good if they are going to help. I have dust and mold allergies so I am doomed. Did the shots and not a bit of help. My next house I think will have wood floors with throw rugs thru much of the house and at a minimum in the bedroom.

I seriously think it's the weather around us, partially. My mom and I always get them, and my whole office gets sick with them during certain points in the season. It's tough going :s

*raises hand* Add me to the list of sufferers. A warm compress across the bridge of my nose usually helps. I've got daily allergy meds, too, but I need to go back in for another script. And I've got a nasal spray, but I don't like to use it b/c it blocks smell as well.

And I'm suffering today, as a matter of fact...but I have to go to work. I'll cut dairy out for a couple of days...that always helps.

Stingy... who me? Not likely. I'm damn good for the economy cuz I spend money like shit through a goose. At my age I would rather have the convenience of buying it off the shelf.

and yes I doubt wood dust is very good. Might look silly but I would wear a surgical type mask if I was doing that for a living.

We have those by the box full and I've tried them. I find them very uncomfortable if I wear them for extended periods of time. They also interfere with my glasses after a while so I only wear them when I do a shit load of cutting on the saws. I do use a good respirator type mask when I use contact cement etc though. That stuff is deadly.

And you called me stingy. Ha !

My employer supplied insurance would have covered the cost anywhoo. You should get yourself some of that.

Dairy goes down the throat, not down the nasal passages. Start putting it in the correct hole and you'll be fine.

LOL, thanks for the tip!!! I had a wicked sinus infection/ear infection in college and was given a wonderful lesson on the increase in mucus production caused by dairy and yeast. :yuk I will say, though, that it has helped to cut out beer and dairy...so yay for valuable life lessons.

Here is the recipe for anybody interested

1 - Teaspoon non iodized salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
5 - drops of grapefruit seed extract
2 - cups of water

You mix it up and shake it to make sure it is all stirred up. Warm the water and use half of it

shoot it up your nose alternating nostrils

for those who have never done this you can use a baby snot sucking bulb to siphon the mixture out of a jar and then shoot it up the nose. Bend over a sink as it will come out the other nostril. clear the nostrils before going back to the opposite one.
