I'm another one who likes to get to the airport on the early side. When I flew to Winnipeg in April my flight was scheduled to leave at 10:30am. I got off work at 6:00am, went home, grabbed something to eat and showered. I was ready to go by 7:30. free-happy-smileys-839.png

It really depends on the airport and the time of day for me. When I lived in San Antonio, I cut it really close a lot of the time... I'd have a 6am flight, and I wouldn't leave my house sometimes until 445-5am. But at that time of the morning it was a 15 minute drive to the airport at most, I'd check in the night before, and I didn't ever check my luggage. Living about 45-60 minutes from the airport now though, I usually end up getting to the airport about an hour and a half before my flight is scheduled to leave. I used to be sure to leave enough time to be through security 2 hours before my flight was scheduled to leave, but then I learned that it's really freaking boring to sit in an airport for almost 2 hours.

I have way too many airport/airplane stories... but I guess that comes from flying a lot for work for a while. :24: I actually kinda miss it... it'd be cool to get another job where I got to rack up frequent flyer miles without paying for the flights myself. ;)

2 hours before my flight is my standard arrival time at an airport, unless it's a really small airport like when I was returning from Bozeman, MT (checking bags & clearing security never takes long at all in those airports). And I always check my flight status right before I leave the house to make sure it hasn't already been delayed or canceled.

Smart woman.

I might add, ALWAYS make it three hours before the depart time if leaving out of Vegas with handguns. Vegas for whatever reason, is the absolute worst airport to fly out of if you are traveling with guns.

Yeah, I have to "try" to get there two hours before the flight is scheduled to leave... but we do have one of the (or the number 1? it changes every year) busiest airports in the world.

Still listed as the busiest one as of now. ;) It always amazes me to fly into places like NYC or Boston and see how much smaller the airport is b/c, in my head, I always imagine NYC would have a HUGE airport.

yes! I am always in shock when I can get off a plane and just walk around the corner to baggage and then leave... WHAT? I don't have to take a subway half way around the world to the exit??

I don't know where you're flying into when you go to NYC... cause JFK is the 6th busiest airport in the United States and has like eight terminals; LaGuardia is much further down on the list, but it still has four terminals. Though I suppose any airport would seem small in comparison to trying to get out of Hartsfield-Jackson if you're flying anything other than American... I flew into there last month and it took freaking forever to get to baggage claim. Most large airports have baggage claims for every terminal, whereas everything at Hartsfield-Jackson funnels out into the main concourse, which is damn aggravating. I can't stand that airport... give me DFW, O'Hare, LAX, or San Francisco any day of the week. Hartsfield-Jackson is just a poorly designed shithole as far as I'm concerned... but I'm picky about my airports, having spent so damn much time in them for a few years.

Haha... that's like the airport where I live. We have like two commercial flights a day.

I flew in to LaGuardia. Much much smaller and much less busier than Hartsfield. Same with Dulles and Logan.

I just looked at the 2012 list and JFK was like #20, so prob old stats? But Newark is really busy too... I think the NYC airports are easier to navigate though because of the limited square footage. Like even though Newark is a major hub, it is really quite small - they only have 2 runways, so a lot of their flights have to board + then taxi away from the airport and wait to take off.
