One of my idols, Sigmund Freud's interpretations weren't just expert, they were true. 'The Father of Psychoanalysis' was as he was referred to. His work has been tremendously influential in the popular imagination–popularizing such notions as the unconscious, defence mechanisms, Freudian slips and dream symbolism – while also making a long-lasting impact on fields as diverse as literature, film, marxist and feminist theories, literary criticism, philosophy, and of course, psychology.

I find his work to be amazingly accurate and inconclusive. I read very many of his books, all to come to the same conclusion that he interpreted perhaps what Albert Einstein couldn't imagine of interpreting. His work is just stunning, making Mr. Freud my #1 idol.

Who else here has heard of his works?

Well I think Most people have heard of Him, but there were many and better Psychologists to come after him, many of his interpretations, and Deductions, were somewhat warped from his own personnel experiances.

And let's not Forget, That Jung himself, has also brought Many important discoveries To the world of Psychology.

Freud, Had his thoughts, Which were most often Disembodied and Sexually based.
Most of which are disregarded In Psychology these days, Though his work is still studied and taught, He is not considered to be relavent, And is only used in certain Fields.

Truly the only Theory of his I believe to still be wildly used and Taught is the Id, Ego, and SuperEgo Theory

I guess you follow on the thiery of quality and not quantity posting. Which is always good for a forum. You included definition links also, interesting!

I have had a few girlfriends that majored in psychology and they both were instructed to use Freuds writings as reference. I have a few of his books, but have not read them. I would think that his work is slighty outdated, as peoples psychology hasn't changed, but many of their views have.

I've never asked my friends why they are not instructed to study from a newer source. My study is in relationships and bodylanguage, not psychoanalysis.

Well it is True that Freud Was break through with his Psychanalysis theory's, I was Refrencing more in Psychology itself. Most Psychology is still taught from Wundt and James, However I guess It is all Personnel Choices also, Many do not agree with The Freudian Theories, Some still Value that His views are More onset.

I am also Sure that Many do study from Newer Sources, But the old sources still contain most the Breakthrough Knowledge that all The newer sources themselves Depend on.

I took a class on Sleep and Dreams not long ago, and one of the sections we covered was Freud and his dream symbolisms. I wasn't too impressed. Never have been actually. Freud was a bit too caught up with phallic symbols and trying to link everything to sex. Everything from a child being sexually attracted to its mother to little girls having penis envy. I'm sorry, but Freud was a crackpot.
