Pretty bizarre question, right?

Did you know that a Republican in Georgia wants to criminalize miscarriages?

Miscarriages and abortions could both be punishable by death. According to this bill, any “prenatal murder” which includes any “human involvement in a miscarriage” would be a felony carrying a penalty of life imprisonment or death.

Rep. Franklin’s new law would require that any woman who suffered a miscarriage be considered a felon unless she could absolutely prove “no human involvement whatsoever in the causation.” “Human involvement” is not explained or defined here. But, forcing a woman to provide proof that she did not directly cause her miscarriage only further demonstrates the direct attack on women and their health and well-being, especially when you consider that even medical doctors are rarely clear on the exact cause of miscarriages.

Hope he's sacked with immediate effect. My missus had a miscarriage and I can gaurantee I would put him to death if he tried to legally murder her!

I can see the warped logic - a woman could have an abortion then claim it was a miscarriage to avoid penalty, so if they ever managed to put a twisted bill through, I guess it would technically make sense.

Except for as the quote points out, a lot of the time doctors don't even know what causes a miscarriage, so it'd be very difficult to 'prove' that you had nothing to do with it, since you couldn't show what actually caused it.

Hell, apparently a percentage of women have probably had very early-term miscarriages and never even known they were pregnant. If you have irregular periods, the only clue is a heavier flow than normal, and most people just wouldn't know anything had happened. That's how little control we really have over a miscarriage!

Seeing that 1 in 3 womens pregnancy ends in a miscarriage, just how does he propose to finance this? And, secondly, is he not worried about Americans going extinct if the women are killed off?

I'm guessing no one really expects this kind of law to pass in this day and age. Maybe these sentiments are expressed more for shock value and media attention than actual plausibility.

You have to wonder what's going through his mind... Nobody in the world, no matter how anti-abortion, could think this a supportable or implementable option...

Most women who suffer a miscarriage feel bad enough as it is, without some political jackass giving them a death sentence for it. Getting pregnant, having an abortion... Those are moral decisions. It should NOT be left to some stranger that doesn't know you or your situation. Fuck, people are so stupid...

Tis ashame when we seek solutions to our problems in this world we have people trying to pass laws to even further our dilemmas in this world. I believe that all life should be cherished, but it is not up to anyone except that individual(s) to decide in the end on what is right or wrong for them so to speak. I suppose no one can be stripped of their right to freely decide what to do with something that is within their own self in a sense. It would simply be immoral. There are no "sides" in my opinion of looking at things. There are simply different ways of dealing with pregnancy. Both ideals should be respected. We should not let our own personal decisions divide us in this world on whether to keep a baby or not.

Then one must prove that a miscarriage is, indeed, a miscarriage and not a premeditated plan to abort the baby or it shall be considered "murder". To think we were once innocent till proven guilty and now it seems we are guilty unless we can prove otherwise. Truly...justice is blind and our voices have fallen upon deaf ears these days. That is merely my own thoughts though as I am sure they shall be amongst other thoughts here.

Men need to stop making laws for women. Plain and simple. I don't feel a fellow woman has any place to tell me what to do with my body, but the idea of a man doing it is ridiculous. I have medical issues and basically will die if I try to reproduce, and the baby might go with me. So, under this idea, if I get raped I'm dead. And a baby might be dead anyway. This is just........... ugh, fucking retarded.

I was thinking this was about the country of Georgia...... not the state of Georgia in the U.S. :eek

Guy's a winner for sure. Why aren't the people in that state putting together a recall?

Seems like a logical next step in The Party usurping ever more power over the individual. I'm surprised someone didn't propose it as a federal law.

Totally crazy...and worded rather wrong...if it had been worded that if a woman intentionally caused a miscarriage or her actions resulted in a miscarriage then he may have a point...as it is not he is assuming guilt and you have to prove you are innocent..what an idiot.
This would be along the lines of being guilty when something was stolen in a store and have to prove you didnt do it.
The guy obviously has no business being involved in politics at all.
IMO he should be charged with with murder for the next person that passes away in his city and not be released until he can prove he didnt do it
