Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft, it would be nothing without him. He built it up into the company it is today, but reports are saying there is trouble in the boardroom and they want him out. Innovation is falling behind, they lost the phone/tablet race, they need new blood.

Should he stay or should he go?

I am starting to think that the modern day is slightly behind him now and some fresh, young blood could do the company quite good.

It would be a shame to see them fall further and further behind.

Yes he should leave because he is not as hip and with it as that Steve Jobs guy . . . oh wait that guy is DEAD; of course Gates should stay. It's HIS company who is going to make him leave?

Bill Gates left as CEO but he still owns a lot of shares of Microsoft. According to Ask.com, he owns around 40% of the stock and that's already the majority. It means that he has a seat in the Board of Directors. I think he actually is the Chairman of the Board. I think he should stay because his experience and wisdom is very useful to the company.

Corporations that flourish can last perpetually as long as their business is viable, but persons may have to be replaced if the corporation feels it needs new blood. As in the case of Microsoft, it is no doubt a stable company, but management will have to make drastic changes to keep it that way, even if it means Bill Gates may no longer run the company. Bill Gates' contributions to the company cannot be simply brushed aside as he built this company, but at most his financial and management control over the corporation may have to be decentralized in favor of younger, more experienced managerial employees. While his experience may be regarded as invaluable, his role would be more of an advisory capacity. The day-to-day activities of the corporation have to be delegated.
