The english version is fantastic, just started watching the eighth series :) if the american version is anything like the same then it'll do well!

they only have aired two shows

brand new series here

no idea if it is like yours

This is about a dysfunctional family led by Macy who is a drunk

Some very funny stuff but also some very serious stuff

Nothing like it I have seen before

I gather it's the same idea, like us having The Office and then you getting your own version :) that's what I like about it, it can be so funny sometimes but I've also cried loads over some of the storylines. It doesn't help that we watched the first 7 series online, four episodes a night so we got attached to the characters really quickly!

Might have to see if the first american episode is online somewhere to see what the differences are.

You can look but Showtime is an extra channel you have to pay for. Probably the best you would be able to do is get a season one disc sometime down the road. I doubt they will put it online free. If so it better be a couple of years down the road or I would be pissed.

Having watched the first episode there is pretty much no difference. Same characters, same things happening in the episode (apart from the in the US one Frank gets dumped in Canada, whereas in the UK one he got taken to France). It's a really good show to get into mind, and Paul Abbott, the main producer, is really good. Not so sure I could ever watch it fully having got used to the UK one (and it being in Manchester of course) but it's well worth watching. Easy enough to find free online too.

I don't get Showtime but I do like William Macy lots! If they have a free showtime on Dish Network (they do occasionally with premium channels) I'll be sure and check it out! I like stuff like Cohen Brother's films!

Shameless is awesome....I just cant imagine an "Americanised" version...sorry.

Why cant you guys just show the original versions?

The Office..(UK)
Kath and Kim( Oz)
and now Shameless.(UK)

Is it "anti American" to just watch the original versions if they're not made there?

:homo:

Dont forget the terrrible, terrible, USA versions of Red Dwarf and Fawlty Towers. Apparently the've now felt the need to remake the awesome Peep Show before airing it, for some strange reason, too.:thumbdown

Ok, finally got to see the opening episode of the American version. Seriously, what's the point? It's exactly the same script just with different location and actors. They might have well have just shown the original.Seeing they had to buy the script anyway, I can't see the point of refilming the whole thing when it would have just been cheaper to show the British version.

Do you think that maybe Americans would be less inclined to watch it if it were the British version? I think they might be tbh, possibly right it off as foreign rubbish?

Probably, I can't think of any other reason for it, it's not even like when they remade the Office to fit in more with American humour, the whole script was exactly the same! The close mindedness is astounding! The scary thing is, the'll probably keep quiet about it actually being a British show and when it wins awards, the'll all be congratulating each other for their brilliant tv.

have not seen shameless, will try to find it

i did however watch the US version of The Office before watching the UK one and found the US one better, the characters were better, in the UK one I only liked one or two characters in the US one they developed more of the other characters rather than just focussing on David Brent, that might have had more to do with Gervais input than anything else, i know he advised on the US version but doubt he had as much influence as he did ont he UK one

I remember when they remade Life On Mars in America, they said it was because Americans could not understand the Manchester Accent or the references to UK culture. Or at least that's what kept being said on IMDB :surrender

I didn't watch the British Shameless tbh but I could never bring myself to watch the American versions of The Office or Skins :/
