the Gloucester Dragons Recreational Soccer League of Ottawa have changed their rules so that any team that finishes a game more than five goals ahead of their opponent is instead declared the loser.

I thought this must be a joke so I chased the links down to this CBC story.

This is more stupid than I thought PC could get. :surrender

Is that the first time you've heard of that Accountable? That kind of stuff is old news. Whatever happened to " doing your best "? This world is going to hell in a handbasket I tell ya.

There is a school board that has banned their teachers from marking tests in red ink cuz it upsets the kiddies too much. I think it might be in Saskatoon, Sask but don't hold me to it. Sick in any event.

they just rescinded that rule
That's too bad. I was just listening to a radio talk show that laid out the logical result, since it's dealing with kids.

  • Since getting too far ahead means a loss, getting too far behind means a win.
  • Kids will start kicking the ball into their own goal, trying to put the other team up by 6.
  • The other team will realize what's going on and start doing the same on their end.
  • In order to prevent that from happening, each team will send their own goalies to the opposing goal to defend against getting too far ahead.
  • Competition restored.

there was a move a few years ago over here that suggested that in our junior football if a ream went a certain amount of goals in front they're declared the winners....was actually a good idea because an 11 - 0 scoreline would embarrass kids and potentially make them give up sport for good

a few years back the junior school my son went to had this woman head teacher, sports wise she was a nightmare, non competitive football ruled the day..all they ever played was friendlies...well when she retired this bloke took over and it all changed, the kids won one cup competition and lost in the final of another, all in the first season

Declaring them winner is fine. It's called the skunk rule or other names like that. The rule in the OP declares the team with the runaway score the LOSER!

Well apart from the opposing players upping their international goals tally, no. But if your so shit you get beat that heavily, don't bother playing football.

then the likes of san marino would never compete....by your way of thinking the world cup would only be south american and european teams....the reason that the likes of south korea are actually giving a good show is because they played stronger nations and learned, they were allowed into the world cup etc..it made them stronger

South Korea managed it but I don't see the likes of San Marino etc doing well because they get trounched every time.

Although Rubin Kazan beat Barcelona last year in the Champions League so I guess you never know, although South Korea have a league, whereas I don't believe San Marino do.
