If it's any consolation, MN picked up the win at the death so doesn't that mean that whatever score the Bears got today it wouldn't have mattered.

Having said that I don't understand the whole runner up bit going in where two other teams had to lose

If it makes you feel any better, the Steelers beat the Brownies 31-0 in a game that didn't matter at all because they already clinched their division.
