I think that would be a good idea but really there isn't a way to make sure all the kids keep them on. I know that when I was riding a school bus we were pretty rowdy sometimes. I'm sure most school buses are like that. Its a good thought though.

yeah I think that it would be a good idea for seatbelts too. Although I wasn't rowdy on the school bus as a kid I do remember my face flying into the seat whenever the bus driver would stop the bus.

I thought that some buses already had seatbelts?

Here is something else that pertains to school buses KARK News

It doesnt actually involve the girl being on the school bus so in this instance the seat belt ordeal doesnt really play into effect. But its very sad what happened to her.

In the UK it's now compulsery to wear seat belts wherever you're sitting in a car. I really don't get why the same dosen't apply on busses seeing the dangers are just the same.:confused

We have belts on our bus. It's compulsery for me to just not put one on though. I never do on the bus, because there are only belts in the first 8 seats(Left and right sides). So even in a car I don't wear one. I trust the people I drive with enough. I wear it sometimes though.

Don't turn this shit on me. I'm not going to debate about my morals and the way I was raised. My father doesn't even wear one, gonna bitch him out?

4 kids have died now as a result of that crash, and I'm afraid still more may follow. I know that area well as I used to work in Huntsville so maybe it hits home more with me, but thats just so sad.

What disgusts me is the news that the Westside Baptist Church plans to hold a protest at the funerals for the kids who died in the bus crash.

Dude, I wasn't having a pop at your morals or the way you were raised. And I don't recall ever having a pop at your dad either.:confused And seeing this is the section for debate, what are you doing here if you don't want to debate? I was just raising a valid point. Take a chill pill and calm down!:(

Yeah but do you trust the other idiots on the road who might run into you and send you through the windscreen or smack into the person in front of you?

Maybe you didn't mean to, but that sounded pretty mean to me. And I meant I'm not going to argue with somebody about something like this, condsidering my friend just died last week, and her parents were actually saying, "It's her fault, she should have been wearing a seatbelt". You can't blame your daughter when somebody T-Bones you out of nowhere by running a red light. I never said you took a pop at my dad, I was just saying. He doesn't wear one either, so he's just as wrong.

How was that mean? I wasn't having a pop at you or whoever was driving you. I was talking about certain other idiots on the road. I'm sorry to hear about your friend dying and I disagree that it was her fault, it was obviously the fault of the idiot who crashed into her. Seatbelts do protect you more though if you've been in a crash. Not only against idiots who cause accidents but however good a driver you are accidents happen, skidding on ice, swerving to avoid animals ect.

Im not sure that the accident talked about would have been different with seatbelts....But I have always wondered why there arent seat belts on a bus. I dont know if it would be safer...but it makes sense.

Hi.

I'm from England too and like Peter parka, I agree really with what he says.

Over here, we do have to wear seatbelts, no matter what or who and children under a certain height, no matter what their age, have to have a booster seat in the car they travel in as well as a seatbelt.

It concerns me hugely, that that being the case, why has our government not made it law for buses, all coaches and mini buses, to have seatbelts installed. I don't understand that, especially as drivers of buses and coaches do speed and always have done - more than every day drivers in so many cases too.

Dodge_Sniper, that's sad for you to have your lost your friend that way. I did too, years ago and it's something that sticks a long long time.

I'm absolutely for it, and there IS a way to make sure that everyone keeps it on. All they need to do is put a light up front that lights up, preferrably pinpointed to exactly which seatbelt isn't buckled, standard for the drivers seat in I believe every new vehicle. That way if a kid unbuckles it the driver knows, stops and pulls over and they can take the appropriate actions to punish repeat-offenders.

I'm not sure why it's taken this much time for this to become the standard?

I've always wondered why on a SCHOOL bus full of children there has never been a seat belt requirement. Sure there is the argument of the bus flipping and kids getting stuck, etc, etc, but you can use the same argument for cars, and well...the likelyhood of it isn't that high. I have been on a bus numerous times where people were just standing up or walking around, and the bus has come to a quick stop, and people fallen in the isles. I think seat belts for sure should be required.
