It's finally here! SAW V is now in theaters! Now, for the usual review on it.
For people not wanting spoilers: Anybody other than me will probably hate it. It's basically like Law & Order with traps.
[Beware! Spoilers ahead]
I loved SAW V. It wasn't as good as SAW III, but it was still AMAZING. It's worth the ticket money, in my opinion. It lived up to every bit of hype. Everything the director promised us, it was there. But one thing people may not like, is the twist(Or twists to be honest). The twist is comprised, this year, of two or three seperate twists. First, we find out that the main trap of the movie(Consisting of 5 people) was meant to have everybody survive. But as usual, the people assumed they had to kill each other to survive. In the end, only ONE girl survived(But hey, we rarely have survivors, so that's awesome). The second twist is that Strahm misunderstands the final trap. He puts his coworker, Detective Hoffman, into a trap. He assumes the trap will kill him. The third twist, is that the trap doesn't kill him. Strahm was meant to go into the "trap" to save him from a REAL trap. The final "trap" is a glass box. Strahm was meant to go into it, and it would "save his life" supposedly. Strahm doesn't believe it, pushes Hoffman into it, and thinks he's won. It turns out, the box slowly motorizes and goes into an empty space in the floor. The walls close in, and crush Strahm. It would have saved Strahm to get in the box, but he didn't trust the man he was trying to kill(Hoffman).
If you remember, as epic as it felt, the twist in SAW was seriously very small, much like this year. The ones in SAW II, SAW III, and SAW IV got bigger and bigger. David Hackl did exactly what he promised us with SAW V. He brought back the teamwork traps from SAW, and he tried to make this one a lot more like SAW. The twist may have been smalll, but for me, it blew my fucking mind. I honestly expected Strahm to be pushed into the glass box or something by Hoffman, and have to do something to escape the trap. Seeing Hoffman escape alive in that trap, and Strahm die...oh man. I walked out of the theater going, "Holy fucking SHIT!". I loved SAW V. This one was the perfect blend of talking and traps. It wasn't all traps like SAW III(Sorry Darren. I do love SAW III though, and I did understand the love story beneath all the blood and guts, as you've said before). It had a good amount of police work, which is important, and a good amount of talking, versus the traps. Seriously, on the police work topic, we needed this in SAW V. We NEVER see how much hard work goes into finding Jigsaw, and solving the case, other than the few SWAT scenes where Rigg and Kerry and Eric explain what's going on.
SAW V was definately a great way to keep the series alive. Or in my opinion. As I've seen, a lot of reviews, and even fans, have hated this movie so far. Sadly, nobody's sticking around anymore. But I will. I thought SAW V was great. It satisfied all of my expectations.
Honestly, I can't say much more. Just go see SAW V as soon as possible, and as close to opening day as possible! Much like Cloverfield, it'll never be the same after opening day!
