this is a song by an artist named patrick sky from the late 60's. if this thread goes like i would like to see it, i'll be bringing in a ton of material from the last half of the twentieth century that will include political comedy sketches and tunes from many well known artists and a number of more obscure ones. somewhere on the dividing line of that we'll be looking at media by such people as tom lehrer, allan sherman, the capitol steps and kinky friedman.

as a matter of fact, i think in the face of all the nuclear jitters we're looking at today, tom lehrer's 'who's next?' might be a good flip side for 'fight for liberation'.

don't be shy. if any of you have favorites that fit the bill, post 'em on in here.

I love Tom Lehrer. My father used to play him to me as a child. The Vatican Rag was my favourite of his.

It's a shame he gave it up, but his reasoning is sound:

Tom Lehrer said:
The real issues I don't think most people touch. The Clinton jokes are all about Monica Lewinsky and all that stuff and not about the important things, like the fact that he wouldn't ban land mines... I'm not tempted to write a song about George W. Bush. I couldn't figure out what sort of song I would write. That's the problem: I don't want to satirise George Bush and his puppeteers, I want to vaporize them.

thanks for that ed. i haven't been able to find anything on him past the 70's. i don't even know whether he still lives.

did you listen to the patrick gray song? the link might have gotten lost behind the video. that whole album, songs that made america famous is the underground classic outrageous vietnam era satire music.

my parents bought all his albums the instant they were released and played them all the time. him and fats waller were in the air at my house when the disc was spinning.

i love so many tunes by so many people, i can never say such and such tune is my favorite of any genre, much less any specific artist.

the only album we had was a tape copy of "An Evening with Tom Lehrer". Great stuff!
