What amazes me is the sheer volume of people in the streets protesting because of vote rigging. The people of the US have been put on the hook for generations to come for financial shenanigans aided and abetted by our govt and we are for the most part silent and the ones who have hit the streets are ridiculed as dirty hippies. Go figure.

I honestly think that the protests are the culmination of 20 years of frustration, not just vote rigging. Post USSR, Russia experienced economic chaos and a huge segment of the population fell into dire poverty during the 1990's. The country's economy nearly collapsed just before 2000.Meanwhile, you had a government that was powerless to do anything, even if it wanted to.

When Putin came along, Russia finally began improving on the coattails of oil. Most Russians would not have cared about politics, just as long as everything was going fine.

Now things are starting to fall apart again with the economy and such. And it isn't really the recent vote-rigging that has all of the sudden bothered the people. It's the realization that Putin doesn't want to let go of power, and true change won't even begin to happen unless he goes.
