I've seen these before but never been able to be close enough to get a decent shot. Note the unique color of the bill.

I've got Ruddy Ducks living down the road from me in the lakes in the Lea Valley. The're not native to the UK but 30 odd years ago a few escapes started breeding and now there are a small but healthy population of them in the South East of England. The males have brilliant coloured bills.

Not being a duck expert (or even novice), I was wondering why you were using some British slang :)

Nice little chubber though :thumbup

Indeed a nice colored beak! :thumbup Good combination with the red feathers which the latter actually reminds me of warm fuzzy socks :p

It is a very unique colour that's for sure. I think someone mention only the males bills are blue. The females are black.

Very nice shot there Guy..
Thanks Francis

Luv it Guy

Thanks Hart

Well you guys are rubbing off on me but nope.. that's it's real name. Now about your " chubber " comment. How about translating the for me. :D I would like to add it to my vocabulary but not until I know what it means. :24:

Chubber is simply a reference to someone who is slightly to grossly overweight. Context is everything though so it can be used as a friendly dig - or indeed as a big insult :)

That duck looked like it had a few too many breakfasts - hence I called it a chubber :p
