Does anyone use it in thier car/ suv/ truck?
I had my oil changed today and had it put in. I had 2 different people recommend it to me. It was the most expensive oil change I have ever had. But It is suppossed to be the best thing.

Just FYI, unless your car came with it, it's really not worth that sticker shock of synthetic.
Most that I know will use it in cars that they know they will be rodding around or for a little extra protection during the cold months. But it's really not necessary at all unless the car requires it.

Unless you want to keep dishing out a butt load of moola for a meesly oil change don't bother going synthetic.

You don't need to be a hot rodder to reap the benefits of synthetic motor oil but you almost need to be a scientist to figure out which one is best for your car. There are only two or three different grades ( quality ) of synthetic oils but there are many different additives that individual companies use and that's where the science comes into play. If you don't know what the additives are or what they'll do you'll not reap the rewards. In the end what's really important to someone like you and your HHR is if you intend to keep the car for many years. If you do then the extra cost involved in using synthetic oil should be considered an investment of sorts because it will extend the life of your engine under normal driving conditions because it doesn't break down as quickly as regular oil. In that there is no doubt but... if you get rid of your car every few years then regular oil should suffice for you and that would end up saving you some dough. Something else you might want to know about is you can get synthetic oils for your tranny + / or diff, power steering as well.

Edit: An oil change is the best and cheapest regular maintenance a vehicle owner can do.

I am planning on keeping this car for a while. My jeep is the same year but I am thinking about getting rid of it. So that I will not switch over. I was already considering switching my tranny to synthetic fluid.

I've been using synthetic lubes in all my vehicles for quite some time.
They last longer with fewer repairs, get better fuel mileage especially in winter and are easier to start on cold mornings.
I bought a 1993 Ford Ranger, new, changed to synthetics in the engine, and transmission within the first 1000 miles. The differential later. I change oil in the engine at about 9 to 10k and even at 197k never need to add inbetween changes. I've never needed any internal engine, transmission or differential repairs.
Even though I don't drive it much any more, I still intend to keep using synthetics in it if only because it starts better in winter if/when I need to use it..
Unfortunately the body has deteriorated greatly since the hail storm last spring April. Hundreds of dents with paint starting to show signs of cracking.
But it's only a truck to push, pull or haul with so it's cosmetics aren't important to me.

IMO...synthetics are a good investment.

since you can go over twice as many miles between changes and you still have better oil at the time of the change it seems a no brainer to go with synthetic.

I had the dealer switch my Prius to synthetic at the second oil change since Toyota say it is good for 10,000 miles between changes. It lets it start easy in the cold.
