Lastnight at work was extremly busy for awhile. We had a trauma a 34 year old that apparenlty had a heartattack (they think) and got in a car accident. He came to us not breathing and took 6 units of blood before they could stabilize him enough to transport him to a larger hospital by med flight. He died there. How said is that to lose someone in such a tragic way before christmas :( My heart goes out to his wife and family.

*HUGS* Kudos to you for doing what you do. It has to be so hard on you in those instances where you witness tragedy for a family, but most especially at this time of year. *HUGS*

Its not that I dont see that kind of stuff all the time I work in a hospital thats to be expected, its just odd that this one kinda hit me a little worse this time. Not that Im crying or anything I just feel really bad for his family.

I would imagine you have to have keep your emotional distance in order to keep your sanity and that's why I applaud you, it's a hard job Audraa.

You can empathize. I certainly can because my dad was 30 when he died. It was very hard on my mother, raising two children alone.

yes that is tragic and very sad. my heart also goes out to you because you have to see this almost everyday and still feel compassion about. a lot in your profession grow imune to it and dont really think much about it anymore, kinda like "its just a job, nothing more"

thanks but honestly you have to block some of it out its more of a coping mechanism or you wouldnt be able to do your job well. If you get all caught up in emotions it could be bad for the patient. I mean think about it in regard to your personal life too, if you internalize to much you would be a nervous wreck in your home life worrying about this and that all the time.
