The first season of Rome has been available On Demand on HBO. My wife and I watched it the first time around and it's no less impressive the second time. This is one of the best made for TV series I've had the pleasure to watch, 22 episodes of goodness (2 seasons total), before it was canceled (for being too expensive to produce on location in Italy). My favorite character is Titus Polo followed closely by Mark Antony and Caesar. Caesar is such a nice guy, it was sad to see the treachery that brought him down. In this series he really is portrayed as a pretty reasonable person, really. :)

Ample intrigue, violence, and nudity!! If you've not seen it, do yourself a favor. :D

Awesome series.

They might do a movie, I don't think the second series was quite as good as the first however.

We watched it all the way through.
If you like that then you should check out Spartacus Blood and Sand.

Thank you. I will.

We just finished up Rome Season 1 last night. It was stunning again. Looking forward to Season 2.

For those who have seen it:
The death of Caesar in the Senate betrayed by Brutus. The artistic visualization of his death is impressive. If you recall Caesar made Vorenus a Senator for the purpose of personal protection from his enemies, but is outwitted when on the way to the Senate, Vorenus is told truthfully that his grandson is really his wife's son fathered by his wife's sister's husband while he was away at war. He runs home to confront her and in a rage, she throws herself off the balcony. Although Vorenus was toying with a knife like he wanted to kill his wife, when she goes over the side, he realizes he does not want to lose her. (Too late) Attia is called to Servilia's house for tea, where she is told her Uncle Caesar has been killed in the Senate, the Republic has been restored, and she Servilia, will make Attia suffer for all the suffering she has endured at her hands. Finally Pullo who freed his slave with the intent of marrying her, then killed her boyfriend slave in a rage when he found they planned on wedding after gaining their freedom, sinks to near death, but finds redemption.

Yes, it reads like a soap opera, but it's an incredible viewing experience. For comparative reference, I hold Rome, Dexter, Deadwood, and Sopranos in the highest regard. :)

For those who have not seen Rome, the best way to see it is by rental (Netflix or Blockbuster) or buy the set.

If this is true, I learned in Rome that the month of July is named after Gaius Julius Caesar. Interesting, huh? :)
