This thread will contain major spoilers for both Rob Zombie's Halloween, and Death Sentence. You have been warned.

Rob Zombie's Halloween.

This movie has a newer element: Michael talks quite a bit as a child. As I knew it would, it was a very controversial film. The only thing really new was the first 30 minutes of the film. This consisted of Michael getting a new, abusive step-father. I found this ignorant, because in the first movie, we only see his father for 10 seconds, and he seems to be a pretty nice guy. In this adaption, the step-father is a drunken asshole who's got it out for Michael. His mom being a stripper doesn't help him fit in at school either. I believe the term the bully refers to Michael's mom with is, "I wonder if I give her 25 cents if that fucking bitch will let me cum on her fucking tits!". Michael takes this offensive, starts a fight, and enter Dr. Loomis. He starts out as Michael's therapist, and becomes his specialist later. After Michael sneaks away from a parent/principal/Loomis conference, we see the title sequence as Michael is running out of the school. And it wouldn't be a horror film without the revenge factor. Michael gets an enormous stick(How a child of this size could hold such a large object is beyond me), and proceeds to beat the life out of this kid. He stops, takes off his clown mask, and the bully begs for his life. But, Rob Zombie wanted THIS version of Michael to just be a ruthless son of a bitch(Rather than take the Curse Of Thorn approach, as in the previous movies). Michael looks at the bully with his trademarked tilted head, and then slams the stick into his face a few more times, leaving the dead body there. From there, we see poor Michael get his only request of going trick-or-treating rejected by his sister, so she can go fuck her boyfriend(Rather than having her just exit the shower as in the original). The boyfriend wants to have sex wearing the...WILLIAM SHATNER MASK! Obviously, she refuses, and they proceed to fucking. First, Michael duct-tapes his full-grown step-father to a chair(Without waking him up? Even drunk, it's pretty unbelievable). Michael slits his throat, then stabs him in the face a few times. After a good 5 minutes of sex, the boyfriend goes downstairs to grab a beer(Sex, beer, it's the makings of a classic horror film). Then, Michael beats the beats head in with an aluminum bat, for no reason(A hint towards the Curse taking him over at this point). He takes the mask, puts it on(Giving us the first glance at the Michael we know and love, with his trademarked mask), and walks upstairs. He feels up his sister, she thinks it's the boyfriend, sees that it's Michael, and he stabs her in the stomach. On to the most fake scene of the movie. She's dripping blood from every orifice in her body, yet finds the strength to run down the hall, then crawl away. Michael shows no sympathy, and stabs her 17 times. Cue the beginning of the worst/best film ever. We see news reports of Michael's "Manson-like crimes"(Comparing a dead sister, boyfriend, and step-father to Manson. That works).

The rest of this movie is just your basic remake of a movie that was good enough to not need a remake. We do get some seens of Michael in Smith's Grove as a child, and it's apparent that he's having a battle with the Curse. When asked about the murder he committed on his step-father, sister, and sister's boyfriend, he replies, "I don't remember? Is everyone at home ok?", which shows that he can't remember anything when the Curse takes over him(Blackouts maybe?). Finally, the Curse consumes him. One day in the asylum, Michael says nothing, ALL DAY. All through lunch, he says nothing to Loomis, or his mom. As Loomis walks his mom out to the elevator to leave, Michael grabs a fork, and kills a nurse. Here's where things get interesting. As a doctor tries to control Michael and remove his mask, he just loses it. Apparently, a few things trigger Michael's rage. And one of those is touching/removing his mask(As he states earlier in the movie, he feels the need to hide his "ugliness"). From there, Michael never utters another word. The day he's released, a janitor is transferring him from Smith's Grove to a new higher security prison. This janitor has known Michael, much like Loomis, since the day he arrived here. Michael was good friends with him as a child in the asylum. But that doesn't stop Michael from killing him after he breaks out of the chains that bind him.

There's the normal sex scene of the girl and her boyfriend Bob(Ghost sheet scene, where Michael puts on the sheet and glasses). We also get a NEW scene, which I sort of like. Danielle Harris(Halloween 4/5's Jamie Lloyd) is nude. She plays Annie Brackett. And doesn't portray the role as it was in the first. Rather than dying as in the original, she gets a good 15 minutes of being topless, and survives after she's been stabbed once or twice.

We still have the scene of Laurie being a part of the ritual where Michael puts his mom's tombstone in his house, and collects the dead bodies to set up something weird.

But here's where we take a horrible turn, from a decent movie, to the worst movie of 2007. As Michael kidnapps Laurie from the cop car(Trailer: Was that the boogeyman? Michael then pulls her out of the window), Dr. Loomis tries to save her, screaming, "Michael, stop! STOP! PLEASE! It's my fault Michael, I failed you, I gave up on you." Big mistake. This was the also the biggest flaw Rob Zombie made. After this, Michael releases his death grip on Laurie, and proceeds to do the head-crush move on Loomis(Putting his thumbs on Loomis' head, and crushing his skull). Loomis dies, in the first fucking movie. It took 6 sequels of Halloween to even consider killing the original Loomis(It's only implied, but it's also implied that he was just taken over by the Curse), and Rob Zombie did it in one movie. Fucking great[/sarcasm]. This is where the second thing that causes Michael's rage to be released is revealed: Whenever somebody mentions failing Michael or giving up on him, it only makes him more angry.

From here, the movie only has ONE more interesting scene, the rest of the movie, is just a big fucking downward spiral into the worst movie of 2007. The only good scene now, is the action sequence of Laurie hiding in Michael's old house. She hides in the roof, and he proceeds to fucking annihilate the roof, catching her. She remembers that Michael took the dead Loomis' jacket, and gets his gun. She gets Michael to the infamous balcony. But the ending isn't the same as the original. It's much worse. She attempts to shoot, but the first chamber(Revolver) is empty, so she charges him, and they both fall off of the balcony. Fade to black. But the movie isn't over yet. We fade in to Laurie sitting on top of Michael's "dead" body. He starts to sit up, and she attempts to shoot 2 more times. 2 more empty chambers. She has only one bullet in the gun, and this time, she gets it. She aims the gun at Michael's head, point black, literally inches from his mask, and pulls the trigger. A deafening blast, and Michael is laying on the ground, this time, possibly dead for real. The scene ends with Laurie still straddling Michael's "dead" body, and screaming. I haven't figured out why, maybe from the trauma of what she's just been through. But we fade out on her just screaming, then fade into the credits, and the Halloween theme.

Thank God it's over.

And not that it does anything for the film, but props to Scout Taylor Compton. Let's just put it this way, she has an amazing scream. She can scream so loud, the audio in the scene where she escaped Michael's basement was breaking up. And no, it wasn't a film error, because the audio was perfect throught the entire movie, except for those 10 seconds in her scene :D

The main thing that irritates me, is Loomis dying, and Michael dying. In the original, we see Michael "dead", and then cut to Dr. Loomis talking to Laurie, then cut to his body, GONE, an imprint of his body in the leaves on the ground. Leaving it open for the other 8 sequels to come. But I guess it's good, because with Loomis and Michael dead, Rob Zombie can't fuck up the other 7 sequels.

Now, Death Sentence. I can't even begin to describe how amazing this movie was. Many references to SAW and Dead Silence. Great action scenes, while also being a very emotional movie. Kevin Bacon was amazing in this movie. The best work I've ever seen him do. John Goodman also has a pretty good/funny role in this movie. Not your typical revenge film. Much better. I highly suggest this movie to anybody that is a fan of James Wan or Kevin Bacon. Death Sentence is non-stop action mostly, and it's very well filmed and put together.
