He passed away on Monday.
Means was on the front lines of protests by the American Indian Movement. He led the 1973 takeover of Wounded Knee, a standoff with the federal government that lasted 71 days. AIM sought a return to Native American traditions while standing up for treaty rights.
While I didn't know much about Russell Means until his death I did know about him being an actor and him being part of AIM. This man has certainly lived a life long of fighting, whether it was for himself or for his beliefs. He will be missed by many.
