Just thought I'd share this review I wrote with you
The Plot
A stoner (Seth Rogen) witnesses a murder and is forced to go on the run with his drug dealer (James Franco). Encountering problems on the way, he soon realises it is not paranoia induced by the super 'Pineapple Express' strain of super skunk he's been smoking but there are actually criminals hot on his heels.
Review
I was so excited about seeing this film, as in the last 2 years I've become a huge Seth Rogen fan. I had very high expectations as I'd been waiting to see the film ever since I heard about it 12 months ago. Let me tell you, despite the huge expectations his performance didn't disappoint.
Also seeing a fantastic, possibly career rocketing performance from Franco. Saul (Franco), a sweet natured, yet at first awkward and annoying hippie who peddles the deluxe weed Pineapple Express. His favourite client is Dale Denton (Rogen), a stoner process server who has to come up with ever more creative ways to serve courts summons on his prey. Unfortunately, in the process of delivering one summons, Dale witnesses a hit by ruthless crime boss Ted (Cole), as he flees he leaves his roach at the crime scene. The rare super skunk can only come from one person, which means Saul and Dale are forced to flee, ofcourse taking their stash with them.
Like Superbad, Pineapple Express is co-written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg and the sense of 'Bruthas from another Mother' between Saul and Dale is similar to the bond between teenagers Evan and Seth in Superbad. There's even a "McLovin'" sidekick in Danny McBride's Red, the dealer's dealer who gets dragged into their ordeal.
I would say the only annoying part of the film was a fight scene between Saul, Dale and Red which, by any standards seems to go on for way too long. But then again, maybe I wasn't high enough!
I think what makes this film work is the fact that there is non-stop action and comedy alongside each other, giving you no opportunity to catch up and laugh at the current scene as you're laughing about the previous gag for 10 minutes.
Be prepared for a heavy dose of the 'giggles' and a painful stomach afterwards, but do enjoy seeing Set Rogen, FINALLY with a very hot girl and at his best in this superb action comedy.
