Wednesday night we went to Ruby Tuesday in Pigeon Forge, Tn. It was after 9 and we were tired. My wife and I thought eating a late appetizer with drinks in the bar would be nice. First, I did not know they could only serve beer or wine. So much for a drink for me because I don't drink beer and did not want wine. Not their fault but that is the end of the pass.

The bar seemed to be the place the employees were gathering and being as loud and obnoxious as possible. So much for quaint or slightly romantic.

The girl who took our order must have been in training. Took a long time to get my wife's glass of wine. The restaurant was almost empty and it took over a half hour to get one appetizer. When the ticket finally arrived it was incorrect. It took another 15 minutes to get that taken care of for us. Altogether we spent an hour and a half in there.

My only bad restaurant experience so far has been working in one. Shit wages, lousy hours, obnoxious 'management'....

Gonna make sure my boy does it for at least a year, will teach him some patience.

Best money I ever made during college was being a banquet waiter. Weddings would run at LEAST $30-$50 per person, you'd get a guarantee of 15%, average one waiter handling 24-36 people. Work like a dog for 2 or 3 hours serving and cleaning up, then after everything was cleaned up, the bartenders would hook you up on drinks and you have the rest of the day/night to listen to the band and scope out the hot chicks LOL

Tell your son to work at a NICE restaurant where the average bill is between $50-$100 and he may clean up.

I had the salad bar and southwest spring rolls at Ruby Tuesday this past Tuesday night in Morgantown WV. Everything seemed fine but my co-worker and I both got sick within 10 minutes of finishing our meal. The hotel was across the street and I didnt think I was gonna make it back without collapsing.

Can you get symptoms of food poisoning that quickly? For me, it's always been the next day.

I heard on CSI once you can get food poisoning in as little as 15 minutes. My boss actually started feeling ill before he finished his food, I felt fine until I got up and started walking out. It was weird.

There is the possibility it was from lunch that afternoon and it just didnt hit us until hours later and coincidentally during our next meal.

Tipping's not such a big thing here, but minimum wage is $12.50 an hour.

Wait staff gets paid minimum wage here too, but quite a few places the servers have to share their tips with the dishwashers, bartenders and cooks and it's based on their shift sales, so if a table doesn't tip, it actually costs the server money...or at least that's the way it was for me at when I worked at a pub a few years ago.

Poor service is a HUGE pet peeve of mine....were you there close to closing time, Fred? Not that it should really matter, but that might have been the case.

I've just remembered....there used to be a roadkill cafe chain in England called "Little Chef".

Without fail, they were shit.

Do they still exist?

Are they still shit?

Had a bad experience at the local Applebees and have never gone back. The food when we finally got it was OK but the service was a joke. I would have left if we were not there with friends and the wife was kicking me under the table. 20 minutes to even get our drinks is unacceptable.

This isn't mine, but a friend once told me this story:

her and her husband went to a local pub for supper...she ordered a hot sandwich with fries. When their meal finally came, she had mashed potatoes instead....she told the server her order was incorrect and he said "awww, can you just have it anyway..the chef is really cranky tonight".
