Does anyone else agree that the child labor laws are a socialistic, anachronistic, pathetic excuse for supporting the public school system, social welfare programs, and government interference in the family and/or in the child's individual choices?
I'm 14, and for the last 3 or 4 years, I've been campaigning for the repealment of the child labor laws.
The Child Labor Laws prohibit the ability of children to do what they are supposed to do as children - prepare for life. Not letting them get experience in the workplace prohibits that, as well as helps remove the necessary work ethic that the Western Hemisphere is in increasing need of, as well as deprives the family of money when it needs it?
Maybe kids with certain grades shouldn't be allowed to work, and maybe the workplace shouldn't interfere with school. But when enough kids grade's are rising on tests, and when the school day ends at 2:00, and when vacations pop up all the time, kids should be allowed to go and work if they want to or if they need to.

I think it's bad enough that some immature 16 year old punk is making my food. I don't want to see some 12 year old back there, who can't reach over a counter, trying to make my sandwich without washing his hands.

Seriously... there are 25 year olds I wouldn't want making my food, let alone 12-15 year olds.

besides children aren't mentally mature enough to handle jobs in todays world. Unless its doing things for family like farm work or family owned business shit.

child labor laws were put in place for a reason.

such reason is not necessary, since there are more modern employment laws.

so, i agree with you on some level, but i also think that there should be a simple child labor law: No employee shall be under the age of 18.

No, they are there because people like to take advantage of people that don't know any better.

End of story.

How on earth is giving someone a job, with minimum wage laws, unions, employee protections, and the like, taking advantage of them?
Because even with all of that there is STILL worker abuse, and couple that with an inexperienced child, and its a recipe for disaster.

You're 14 dude. Enjoy life. Once you get older a lot of life starts to suck because of work. Enjoy your childhood before it dies.
