Well, it's nearly ten years since the world was in a major panic about Y2K. People were stockpiling food, water, weapons, candles, generators, and so on. I had a six month supply of water in the garage.

What were you doing to prepare for the downfall of civilization? Were you scared? Or didn't you believe a word of it?

We checked every piece of equipment we had and replaced or modified what wasn't ready for the big event. Most folks I talked with at the time, did the same. You didn't want to be the IT person who ignored it and then had issues. Upper management was concerned - that made it a top priority for the foot soldiers.

What I find amusing is that for all the money spent preparing, no one is now comfortable saying they prepared. We had nearly two years of loud advance alarms for folks to take care of it and turn it into a non issue for most of us.

I don't pretend to be the smartest person when it comes to stuff like this. I just made sure my corner of the world was current. The testing was simple - push the computer ahead and see how it handled processes. If it didn't, you fixed or replaced it. Simple

My dad had died a few days before,...so I was with my mum watching the fireworks on TV.

I did NOTHING to prepare for an event I knew wasnt going to happen...and I can remember laughing at "doomsdayers" stocking up.

I was 18 at the time and I think I was trying to convince some girl on new years eve that we should have sex because the world could end at midnight. . Guess who went home alone that night? And not dead?

Didn't believe it. I knew better. People panic about the stupidest things.

I only panic when I run out of cheetos.
