Relocation to another country

Anyone know much about moving to another country? For instance how hard it is and how long it takes to plan etc. I've researched a few hours but I was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with it.

I guess that would depend on where you want to go? how long? why" and what country are you from?

When I was single and traveled, the internet really wasn't "big" LOL and being from the US, my first call was always to the State Department and I planned on being in "phone hell" for a couple of hours as the first step.

My missus relocated from Australia to England twice, second time when we got married. Was pretty easy for her as both times she had either me or a friend to live with and has got right of residence due to her mum being born in the UK.
The difficulties of relocating all depend on where you come from and where you're moving to.

also if you know the language to where you go and if you have any plans already what you will do there what kind of work you are looking


took me a long time having a lot of problems with imigration even i was going to live with my husband
sometimes wonder giving so much trouble to people that show everything and come legal while so many illegals just have no problem

I am British and I live in America, trust me it sucks to get over here.. Time consuming and very expensive but worth it if you have the patience and money!!!

Which country? An ex boyfriend of mine moved to Australia when he got married. It was a lot of hard work and it took nearly 5 years of living there before he was a citizen.

In a few years I was thinking about moving to Ireland. I'm from Canada. I'm not sure for how long. 6 months to 2 years.

Republic or Northern Ireland? Why do you want to move there (eg marriage to someone living in Ireland or to study or just cos it seems like a nice place to live)? Do you have any skills that Ireland needs (eg teaching, nursing)? How will you support yourself, do you have any work lined up and what is the job market like in Ireland? Do you know anyone living in Ireland?

They are all things which could affect how long it will take.

Ireland should have a page on its government website outlining it's requirements for immigrants. I would check that out.

You usually apply for residency, move there, stay for a few years, and then apply for citizenship.

I moved from my country to US with my boyfriend. It was tough initially as one has to adjust to the culture, type of people, climate, food etc. Despite that we spoke English and mode of teaching in our schools is English- we had an accent and we had to learn the way words are pronounced. We didn't have any family in the US but only had schoolmates so we all helped each other adjust. If you find people who are willing to be supportive and patient to teach you the dialect and culture day per day, I think you'll do well.

Well, it is quite expensive here but the wages aren't bad, I wouldn't say there are loads of jobs around at the moment but who knows what things will be like in a few years time! I'm not sure how easy it is to get a visa, I have an Australian friend though and she got a 12 month working visa fairly easily.
