Region Codes

You know the region codes that are in DVDs, that restrict the DVD to only being played on DVD players encoded with that region. I really hate them. Makes it annoying, since some DVDs that interest me don't get released in my region.

What's your opinion on this?

To me it means as long as I live here in the US my DVD collection will work

Strangely, I discovered my DVD player, which was advertised as a Region 4 DVD player, apparently is region free.

What if I want the menus, the special features, and such? Don't tell me to download the discs, since that'd be several GB's in size.

Yeah that's what I mean. And once you get it on disk, delete it.

AnyDVD FTW. It removed all copy protection and such. Excellent for making personal back-ups of your favorite DVD's. I am fairly certain it removes region codes.

There is a version that allows you to play HD-DVD's and BluRays on your PC (as long as you have a player)

Yeah, I find this a pain in the arse sometimes. I got a few DVDs in Australia which I can't play at home.
