I am very into music and recording (mainly instrumental rock) and the main software i use is called Reaper. Have you heard of it? To my knowledge it is not very well known. The company is Cockos. It has full ReWire, VST, VSTi, DX and other FX support. It has a lot of features that are very use ful.
So if you're looking for a new DAW, you should definitely pop on over to their website and check it out.
Personal use liscenses are $50, but cmmercial use liscenses are $250
the trial version is very fully featured
