The past few years I have watched American Idol & Dancing with The Stars. This year I have watched none of Idol and only caught the last minute re-caps at the end of DWTS. I am beginning to wonder if both have run their course. From everything I have read both are very average or below average this year.

I hope they've run their course, but they're cheap tv to make (the phone lines pay for the show costs) and you don't have the outgoing costs of paying writers or actors, so the networks will fight like dogs to keep the trend going

Reality shows are definitely a cash cow for the networks. I have said that for years. I can honestly say I have only watched a few minutes of survivor in all of the seasons. I never really got into most of the others. I did enjoy "Last Comic Standing" however it too had dropped off in quality much like AI & DWTS.

The only "Reality" show I actively watch is American Wife Swap becuase it amuses me no end even though this is a disclaimer at the beginning of the show saying "unlike British Wife Swap, some scenes have been created for entertainment purposes".

Sometimes I watch shows on Mtv like 16 and pregnant (but that makes me cry) and my super sweet 16.

I used to be a Survivor junkie. That's the only reality show I've ever really gotten into. I haven't watched a whole lot of TV in the last couple of years, though.

All reality shows have done is spawn a load of "celebrities" whose only claim to fame seems to be making an arse out of themself on telly and falling out of China Whites at 3 in the morning.

I watched reality shows this past year for the first time. Needless to say I really didn't like them. The only reality shows that peaked my interest was Celebrity Rehab because I liked the way they make total asses of themselves. They aren't any different then you and me even though they have all that money.

As a rule I really dislike non-reality/reality tv. However lately I have been watching "Pawn Stars" (History Channel), about the items people bring into a Las Vegas pawn shop. It is interesting enough. If you are not familiar, people can "pawn" an item, use it as collateral for a loan. In a set period of time, they can retrieve the item if they pay back the loan plus interest otherwise it becomes the property of the pawn shop. And they can outright sell items to the pawn shop. One thing I really like about the show is that if someone brings in an item the owner is not familiar with, he calls in an expert to examine it while the customer is standing there, so there is no taking advantage of an unsuspecting buyer.

In the last episode I watched the guys son who also works there, purchased a hot air ballon. With trepidation the father asked whats the damage? The son says "38". The father says "$3800, that is not too bad", and the son comes back with "no $38000". It was a hoot.

Some of the things that people bring in need to go to an antique store or auction, not a pawn shop.

There is another show called American Pickers which I also find interesting but I will not become a devotee of either show.
