After watching Sky news yesterday (was going to post it yesterday, but too busy) I thought I would post this to you guys.

Sorry if it has been posted before, but couldn't see any threads.

Living on the net and chatting on forums people can be who they want to be, be the age they want to be, be a bloke or a woman, whatever they want. Also after looking at another thread posted by All Else Failed, you can say pretty much what ever you want and get away with it.

OK, you can get banned from forums or websites but you can come back again as someone else!

Are you truthful about yourself on the net?

Is there anything that you lie about? Stupid question, you will not admit it!

This subject really got me thinking about people I have talked to on the net and what people are really like in real life.

i made myself an inch taller than i really am on myspace.

anonymity on the internet makes it easier to lie than in person. it's a problem on wikipedia, with people randomly changing posts just to goof around. that's why one of the guys that made wikipedia is making civilopedia, which requires users to post their usernames.

people get attached to their usernames. and while they can make multiple ones to harass people, i think people are generally honest and sincere about making that username represent them. why start all over again as a noob just to flame people?

This has been around for a while now, not being able to trust who you chat with online. Ever watch Dateline? People are sick... and I dont think Ill let my boys on the net till their married! (a little exaggeration there)
I am who I am...but like GraceAbounds said, I dont post many things about my life on the net. I did in the beginning here, when I needed advice about some issues. I even posted a pic of myself in the beginning, but deleted it a few days later! :cool And the only pics you will ever see of my kids is the back of them! Even on myspace, it took me about a year to put pics up of them. And I have my myspace blocked... so the only people I accept is people I give my trust to. I dont think its a crazy idea to be careful. Maybe its the mom in me... but its hard to trust anyone.

I am honest about everything I say on here. In this forum anyway. I like you people in here and I have nothing to hide. I do agree with the others though about the identity theft thing. I feel in here we are all friends who are just enjoying each other's company on here and enjoy learning about each other and their lives and cultures and such.

I'm 99% the same. If I have an opinion, or I know someone is making up BS I'll call them on it. I'd do that in person and on here.

In person though, at first, I'm more of the quiet laid back type. I still curse, smoke and drink dr pepper though.

I guess I'll be the first to admit that there are definitely things I "lie" about (although "omit the truth" might be more accurate). For the most part I'm truthful and open, but obviously I don't reveal all.

ummm i only post pictures that make me look skinnier than i think i am. lol. I take pictures at certain angles which flatter and sometimes hide things or give an illusion...like wearing black shirts in all my pics...or holding the camera above my head. I just need everyone to tell me I'm pretty. I don't get it much in real life and have a hard time believing it, so sometimes I feed off of compliments from strangers on the internet. I need therapy, I know. <turns off brutal honesty>.

I actualy tend to over exaggerate things more in real life, dunno why but every thing else is the same. If you want to know something about me ask although I do have limits. I wont give you my ssn and my last name only comes out in private conversations like pm's if I feel I can trust the person.

I don't there is a lot of difference between how I am on here compared to how I am in real life (I'm probably not as quiet, and more outgoing in real life than I am on here), but everything I do say in the "cyber world" is the truth. Actually I have been admonished by my "real world" friends for being too trusting of people on the internet, and for taking them, and what they say at face value...I don't like to think everyone is disingenuous or has an ulterior motive. I share bits, and pieces of my RW life on here, while keeping MANY things about my life to myself.
