Ok, Somewhere along the line I picked myself up a RAIDYS Trojan. Can anybody tell me what is the best way to remove this damn thing. I googled it and the terms "confidential Information" and "backdoor" are scaring me. Suggestions??

LOL, Im not sure how to help you man. : ( Hopefully someone gets in here soon though! : )

I could restore with a Ghost Image but the last image was taken only a week ago and I'm not sure how long that that little sucker has been in my system. I hate to have to reload my OS there is just so much I'd have to do to get back to where I'm now, So much programs to reload.

Does anyone know if those Trojan Removers actually work? I heard they cause more problems then they are worth.

Maybe Spybot or Adaware will get rid of it. Both of these are free with regular updates & they should be on everyones computer. Spybot actually blocks a lot of harmful things from even getting onto your PC. Free & easy to use - what more could you want?

You should also have an active Firewall (not Windows) & Windows Defender as well as a Virus scanner. All these things working together keep my PC clean.

I have Advast antivirus that auto updates on a regular basis. I have Windows Defender that I have neglected to update so it is out of date. I use to have Spybot but it kept deleteing my cookies for every website that uses auto sign in. So I got rid of it.

I am about to update Defender. Will it then find and remove the problem after I run a scan?

I'm not sure if Defender will, I know it's not the best, but it does have some useful tools - I think it will also auto update.

I'm pretty sure Spybot will pick it up - at least that seems to be the buzz on one forum.

I found out that Defender is updated but says everything is working fine. I update defs for adaware SE and running scan now it so far picked up lots of things that are critical. Will it remove it or will I have to do something to tell it to remove it.

After the scan is over it will come up with a report. In one tab it will say something like Critical Objects (can't remember the exact title), there will also be non-critical objects.

Click on the critical objects & a list of them will come up right click the list & press select all then push next. It will now ask for confirmation that you want them all deleted. It will then remove them all for you.

Not sure but this page has some more info on it. It looks to me like it is not something that Adaware would remove. Maybe you need a better Virus scanner - don't know much about Avast. Perhaps you could try AVG - it's also a freebie. Must admit that about the only program I ever buy for my PC is an up to date Virus scanner - it just makes me feel safer.

Infostealer.Raidys - Symantec.com

Gotta go now, it's after 3.00 am here, hope this helps.

AVG anti virus works well. Maybe that will take care of it. I have heard of it taking care of other viruses.
Well I just d-loaded and ran a Trojan Remover and it found nothing. Either Ad-Aware SE took care of it or it wasn't there.

What brought it to my attention was when I checked out my start up programs and seen a file called ctfmon.exe when I looked it up I discovered it was placed there by RAIDYS Trojan( since I don't have Windows Office installed which normally uses that exe). So I decided to pursue it. I think I got it.

(Insert sarcasm here) Mr Mastermind (end sarcasm), that statement is incorrect & when read in conjunction with the rest of the sentence it is a also a catch 22. If you can get him the program for free, then surely by your own words it will not work.

Secondly, I have been using Spybot for over half of your life & I can tell you that it does work - the weakest link, of course, is the person behind the keyboard - it just needs to be updated & run at least once a month.

Thirdly, the program that you use to break the passwords, or bypass copy protection or whatever, did you write that yourself or was it obtained for free over the internet? Just wondering.

Some i do myself, others i get help from. I dont know how to write great protgrams i just know the basics of C++. Programs are easy to break. Some have fake serial's, some you just add in some registry files into the regedit, for others you can adjust your computer's time to make the trials run forever.

there was a time i thought spybot S&D was good. But it only takes out the easy shit. Its no better then hijaccthis. Ever got a bad peice of malwarE? spybot cant get rid of it. Ever got huntbar or ibis toolbar. Spybot cant do shit for that. It will just say it needs to restart itself to get rid of the malware. You restart it, and its still there. all spybot is good for is semoving weak spy/adware and getting rid of tracing cookies.

and by 'free' i mean programs that are distributed free.
