well, today I cashed in my birthday present from last year and went on a ten lap race car experience. Needless to say I was very nervous and very excited. after a hour drive south we ended up at the racetrack. found the check in and was then watching these wanna be Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty's. Was told to get dressed and get a helmet and be prepared for our debriefing. Once called we were taken across to high above the race track and told how things were going to get done. adrenaline was pumping and I tried my best to pay attention to the details. Soon enough we were back down in pit row getting into our assigned cars. I had four laps from their "professional" at first we went down the straightaway going fifty then he kicked in and wow...next it was my turn. Now as many of you know I am deaf in my left ear and in the car you have a one way radio and I was having a hard time hearing the instructions, because we first practiced passing the other three cars we went out with, so I went into pit row to tell them of my problem. Problem somewhat fixed, but I could hear the flag man and before I knew it I had the track to myself and was a cruising, I was very tentative because I wanted to open it up but the track was just that quick! Before I knew it I was the only one on the track finishing up my tenth and final lap, I gave her all she had and I was coming up to pit row and realized, damn, let's do this again, I am getting the hang of it!!!! So, my wife (whose Daddy did some amateur race car driving) was so proud! As was I and have a better respect for those who do this for a living (and they race with five to six times as many cars on the track. So, who wants to go the next time? I will gladly do it again in a heartbeat!!! Pictures soon to follow!

Was it the Richard Petty one? Which track? My siblings and I have always wanted to send my dad to the one at Daytona.

I envy ya there PJ

That would be a ball

Doubt they could get it adjusted right for me though.

My brother had a Lola which I got to play around with in a parking lot. That sucker never even got out of first gear and it was scary. It would turn on a dime too.

I would have loved to race cars. It was in my genes back in the day. I had no fear back then.

Hope you have more opportunities to do this. You might want to save up and do one of the classes. Then you get to really race the car.

I never heard of a deal like yours where they let you out alone. They always had a pace car and if you did not stay in line they would make you pull over and stop. At least at MIS it is that way. I think the most you can go is about 70 mph

the cars we used did not have any speedometers inside, so you felt like you were going faster than your own car. it wasn't until the last lap when I was really comfortable to open her up. and the problem with my one way radio made me a little frightened. everyone in the pit row was super helpful and made the experience all that much more better. there were some guys who had done it before and they showed off their driving. so yeah I would want to take a course and go back again for sure...

my brother took a couple of courses and then race locally a little bit til his back stopped that.

He took an open wheel and a stock car course

Not sure of the names but if I remember them I will let ya know
