I recently watched RIPD starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. I was hesitant on watching it because I've read so many comments on YouTube trailers that it's nothing original and is a rip-off of Men in Black. While watching it, I can see why this idea should come up - but really, it had its own storyline and I thought it was pretty original.

What do you think?

It is similar, nothing more. The both plots are completely different and barely have any touch-points, so I guess everything is fine.
I personally prefer MiB over RIPD though.

I despise Ryan Reynolds and absolutely adore Jeff Bridges so I am really on the fence about having to sit through this one. I was not the biggest fan of MIB and though I don't care too much for Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones is a fine actor depending on the role I did watch that one. I feel like for Jeff I have to give this one a shot.

Well there's another similarity between the two films then - having one veteran actor and a younger one, too. I'm no MIB fan as well, but it was a big hit so I guess a lot of others will disagree with me.

I watched both pretty close together. It wasn't intentional, I was over a friend's apt for movie Saturday and chat. He had M.I.B. 1 and 2 so we watched it and then went to see R.I.P.D. on a slow Monday afternoon.

The story line was OK but what had me roaring with laughter is the Bridges character that people see, the gorgeous blonde and the switch back and forth between Bridges and the blonde as men fumbled over themselves at her beauty. She/He came off with some really good retorts and comments to the men that tried picking her up or made a comment her way. You just don't expect a man like Bridges with his rough looking face and gruff attitude to pop off like a lady would and that's why it was especially funny.

I found M.I.B. had it's funny moments but I didn't roar as much with laughter as I did with R.I.P.D.
