What kind of battery is it hooked up to? You could always buy an automatic switch.

The lights are hooked up to a 12 volt lawn mower battery. What is an attomatic switch? Where can I get one?

You can most likely go to radio shack and get a switch that will basically do what switches do; open and close circuits at intervals.

Could I use a blinker thing from a car?

depends on how big it is. I've never torn a "blinker thing" out of a car before.

Blinkers are controlled by relays that turn the power on & then off. You could probably use one if you are using a 12 V car battery or a heavy duty power suppply. You should try it if you have a spare blinker relay.

The reason it may not work is the power supply may not be adequate.
