Well, everybody knows about Ancient Greece.

About their Gods, their stories.

Today we know they are false.

Everybody looks back now and thinks that the Greeks were stupid for believing in their Gods.

Now, the Ancient Greeks, well they FULLY believed that stuff, they had no solid evidence that their Gods Existed, in fact, they were in the exact same position all religious people are in now. Believing in a God.

So these people fully believed in their Gods.

Now what makes all you current religious people any different?

Christians, do you not FULLY believe there was a God? Do you not fully believe that there is a loving God who created the universe and loves everyone on it?

So what makes you any different from the Greeks?

It's very likely that in a few thousand years, people will be looking back on you now, laughing at how silly you were to believe such things.

what we remember about the greeks is that they were the first civilization to disconnect their pantheon of gods from the processes of nature......to use rationality to drive a wedge into the world, separating what could be "known" from what is "unknown"

while not nearly so clear cut nor simplistic as i've outlined, what it illustrates is that -while we "know" a whole lot more, and the "unknown" is wearing new clothes- not much has changed.

How do we know conclusively that they were false?

Because we have disproved everything about their religion.

...What?

You mean like the mythos-logos dichotomy prevelant in modern thought and the schism it creates even to this day? :)

Well the imagination is ours, but that really means nothing if you are trying to prove the existance of a god does it?

Are you insane?

You're saying that because it came from the imagination, it has to have a source attached to it, and therefor it is real?

You can't say someone is stupid for believing something. would you say that Muslims are stupid because they believe in Alla and not God?

I'd say people are stupid to believe in religions anyway :24:

But that's beside the point.

Everyone looks back and sees all the ridiculous stuff they believed in and thought they were silly to believe in it. The Bible says some far out stuff too.

And yes you can say someone is stupid for believing in something.

If you said you believed you could fly I'd call you stupid.

I think all religions are stupid, however you are entitled to your beliefs.

My only quarrel with you would be if you shoved Christianity down my throat, or tried to prove the bible as evidence or act like SgtSpike in any way xD
